"This Spells Real Danger"

The friends are approaching their lonely, humble house. The house has its porch lights on, contrasting from the dim darkness of the calming neighbourhood.

“I thought the haunted house was bad,” Kale starts as he ambles down the pathway that cuts through the leaf-covered lawn. “But me turning into a cat and you turning into a milker?” He turns to his right, giving Reid a horrified look. “That was a thousand times worse!”
Reid, on the other hand, appears mindblown. “So I was actually a milker?”

An open smile pops on his face. “Yeah! And I’m sorry, but I kinda drank you.” He makes a guilty expression.

“Huh—” Reid holds up his hand in the dark, gazing at its direction— “no wonder I’m missing half my fingers—”

Kale immediately lurches forward with his hands clasped over his mouth. “WHAT—?”

“Just kidding!” He holds his hand into the porch’s light, wiggling all five fingers.

With a sigh and a shake of his head, Kale steps up the porch’s step and strolls to the front screen door. He holds onto the handle and yanks at it, yet the door stays put.

“Why’s it locked?” Kale gives it another sharp pull. “I thought Pat would open it up for us.”

Reid approaches Kale from behind and stands next to him. He peers at the window in front of him toward his right.

The window is completely black, indicating no one inside the house.

“It’s dark inside,” Reid announces, leaning from side-to-side to assure he spotted every angle of the window.

Kale turns to his right to look at the window, yet something else catches his attention. His eyes immediately wide at that something beyond Reid’s right side.

Reid turns to look at his friend, spotting his frightened expression. “What?” He decides to turn to the right and gaze at what his friend’s attention is on. His arched eyebrows shoot up.

Perched on the porch chair located on the end of the porch is a furry, white and sand-coloured cat.

“No,” Kale breathes out in disbelief. “Pat?”

“BOO!” Nolan exclaims from behind the two.

“GAH!!!” Kale and Reid instantly hug each other as their initial reaction.

From behind them, Nolan lets out joyous laughs from his large mouth, his head craned back. He then straightens himself. “Oh, you scaredy cats!” He slaps their shoulders, causing them to pull apart and face him. “You thought I turned into a cat again, eh?”

Kale holds his glove-covered palms in front of himself in defence. “I’m done with being scared, okay?”

Reid has an impressed expression at the tallest friend. “Hey, being a guy who didn’t want to celebrate Halloween, you’re pretty good at scaring.”

Nolan runs his fingers through his flawless hair. “Obviously, I am.”

“I-it was a bad idea with me bringing up Halloween to you guys,” Kale blurts out with an anxious grimace. “I should’ve not have done it—”

“I told you,” Nolan cuts in with a smirk, sticking his face into his. He then breezes between the two, pulling out his box of raisins and popping a raisin in his mouth.

Reid slowly turns to Kale as Nolan unlocks the doors and enters the house behind them. “So what do we do now?”

Kale slowly shakes his head. “Let’s just join Pat with his movie…” He gradually turns around and begins ambling toward the doors. “...it should be less scary.”

Reid follows after him, catching the door being opened by his friend. “I don’t know, I wouldn’t count on that! High schoolers can be unnerving!” He then slips into the house, letting the doors close behind him.
