Blades of Love 2

Chapter 2-

Stacey rolled over in bed and looked at the alarm clock. 2:15am. She sighed and looked over at Tyler, who was still fast asleep, on his side with one tattooed arm tucked under his pillow. His cheeks that ever pink color. He always looked so peaceful in his sleep. She carefully brushed the one loose curly lock of his hair back into place and planted a kiss on his forehead before quietly heading down the steps.

Stacey picked up her phone and dialed the number of the one person she knew would be awake. Sammie. “Stacey!!! Why are you up so late? Isn’t it like 2am there?”

“It is. Sammie...I have something to tell you…”

“What’s wrong? Did he hurt you? If he hurt you I swear to Gretzky I’ll break my goalie stick over his legs.”

“No no. Tyler would never hurt me...it’s just...I had another miscarriage…”

“Oh my god, Stacey I’m so sorry. I didn’t know! Oh my god. I’m sorry I said that…”

“No no. It’s okay. You didn’t know…”

“I’m so sorry.”

“Stop apologizing…” Stacey sighed “the doctor says we might have to consider other options.”

“Are you doing okay?” Sammie asked

“Not really. I just feel like this is my fault. I can’t give him a baby. Well I mean I can, but someone else would have to give birth.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah.” Stacey sighed “I mean I wouldn’t be opposed to adoption. Giving a child a better life, you know. But I know Ty wants a child that’s his.”

“Well what do you want?”

“I want Tyler to be happy.”

“Other than that. What do you want?”

“I want a family with him. I mean yeah we have the dogs. And this has been our family, but I want to be a mom. Whether the baby has mine and Tyler’s dna or we adopt.”

“Did you discuss adopting with him?”

“Not really. He seems to be leaning more towards getting a surrogate.”

“I mean if you’re happy with that. I’m happy with that.”

“I’m happy if it makes Tyler happy. I want a family with him.”

“Well then I’m happy.”

“How are you Sammie? I feel like we haven’t talked in forever.”

“I’m good. Just been hanging out.”

“I better head back up to bed before Ty wakes up. Good night Sammie.”

“Night, Stace! Love you.”

“Love you too.” She replied heading back up to bed and curling up under the blanket.

Tyler rolled over and wrapped his arm around her “Are you ok?” He asked sleepily

“Yeah, babe. Just went to make a call.”

“Who are you calling at 2am…”

“Sammie.”

“Oh. Okay.”

“Go back to sleep, ty.”

“Okay, stace.” He said kissing her and rolling back over falling asleep

Stacey rolled into her back and sighed as she stared up at the ceiling. She couldn’t get back to sleep. Her mind was racing over everything that had happened in the past few years. Tyler being traded. The rumors about him being an unfocused party animal. Having to move to Dallas. Finding out they were pregnant shortly after the trade and the subsequent miscarriage. The second miscarriage that had happened the previous year and now this.

It had been a rough few years, but their relationship was strong. Tyler had become a big name in Dallas alongside his linemate and new best friend Jamie Benn. Jamie had been a big help along with his girlfriend Katie. Since leaving Boston, Stacey had struggled to make any new friends. She had retired officially from playing hockey following her first pregnancy loss and since most of her friends were girls from the team, they fell out of touch when she and Tyler moved. Sammie and her still spoke and once in awhile she spoke with AJ.

It wasn’t that she didn’t like any of the other player's wives or girlfriends, they were just different from the people she was used to hanging out with. Katie was nice, however, and she usually came along with Jamie when he and Tyler hung out, but it was hard being away from her friends in Boston.

Before Stacey even realized it, the sun was starting to come up and Tyler’s alarm started going off causing all three dogs to bark. Tyler stretched out in bed and rolled over “Where you up all night? You look like you didn’t sleep at all…” he asked

“I slept for a little bit…” Stacey replied getting out of bed and out the bedroom door

“Stace?” Tyler said following her “Stacey, can we talk?”

“What’s up, Ty?” she asked as she was letting the dogs out the back door

“I just…” Tyler sighed “I know this situation sucks...and I don’t know what you’re going through, but you know I love you, right?”

“Yeah. I know. I love you too…”

“I will do anything at all to make you happy. Anything, okay? You name it. I will make it happen. No matter the cost or difficulty I will find a way.”

Stacey smiled and kissed him “You make me happy, Tyler. I know this is hard on the both of us. I want you to be happy too and I know you’ll do anything for me. There is something though.”

“What’s that?”

“I don’t want to rush into a choice about our future. I mean, I want kids, Tyler. More than anything...and I know you were leaning more towards a surrogate so the baby would be ‘ours’, but the more I think about it the more I’m leaning towards adopting. The process might take a little longer...and we’d have to apply and be approved and then wait for a child to be matched with us, but it would be so amazing to give a child a family.”

Tyler grabbed her hands and leaned in, kissing her “Whichever you decide, Stacey. I want a family with you. No matter how we make that family. I better get going though...I’m gunna be late.”

“Oh. Shit. Tyler...I’m sorry. I forgot you had practice…”

“It’s okay. I love you.”

“Love you too.” Stacey called as Tyler grabbed his bag and sprinted out the door
