Walking into her afternoon class, she headed toward her usual spot near the back of the room and saw that Fred had already beat her there.
"Afternoon, good sir." She bowed her head slightly as she sat down.
"Same to you fair maiden." They both shared a chuckle as Liz situated herself in her seat.
Wasting no time, Fred propped his elbow up on the table and placed his chin in his palm looking over at Liz.
"So a little birdie told me that you were at a Bruin's game without me."
She smirked, but didn't look over at him. "That bird might have been correct, what's it to ya?"
"Oh nothing, except for the fact that it's usually like pulling teeth to get you to come to a game and now you're at one without me. That hurt's Lizzie." He put a hand over his heart.
She finally looked over at him, eyebrows slightly raised. "I didn't realized that you felt that strongly about my choice of game buddies?"
"I do when you're screwing him." A sly smirk spread across Fred's face.
She smirked as a light blush appeared on her cheeks. "You know nothing."
He moved his hand to pull back some of her hair away from her neck and stared at it pointedly. "Considering no one is skilled enough to do that to themselves, I think I have some proof."
Her hand flew up to her neck to cover the mark Fred was smirking at and he chuckled leaning back in his seat, "you don't have to try and hide it. How is he anyway?"
Her head snapped in Fred's direction as her eyes became the size of saucers. "Fred!"
"What! You went to a game because he asked you AND wore his jersey, he's gotta have something going for him!"
"Let me guess, the little birdie?"
"Yahtzee."
"I'm not answering your question."
"Alright then, answer me this. How many?"
"How many what?"
"Seriously? Think about it."
"Not answering that either!"
"That many huh? You animals." He said with a sly smirk.
"How about we drop this, that sounds like a great idea to me!"
He narrowed his eyes at her. "You like him."
Rolling her eyes she dropped her head forward and didn't respond. She didn't look up, instead pulled out her phone.
'Nice move with the hickey there bud.' She sent quickly to Adam before putting her phone back in her pocket as class started. About ten minutes later she felt her pocket vibrate.
'I thought so ;)' She chuckled quietly and shook her head slightly as she responded.
'Next time somewhere not so visible, eh?' Putting her phone on her lap this time, she looked up to a smiling Freddy making a heart with his fingers. She smacked him and whispered.
"Fine. I like him okay? Will you shut up now?!" She diverted her attention to the phone in her lap.
'Depends how long I'm gone next time.' She smirked at the screen and heard Fred chuckle.
"As long as that keeps happening, you'll never get me to shut up."
She sighed, giving up on ever having Fred leave her alone. She knew that he wasn't trying to be a pain in the ass, but sometimes guys just didn't know when to leave things along and it had been a very long time since Fred had gotten to harass Liz about her love life.
'Branding me?'
'Just didn't want anyone else getting any ideas, is all'

The next night, Liz stood in the doorway of one of her patients room sorting out meds before going in. She was finishing up the last half an hour of her 12 hour day and all she wanted to do was go home, shower and sleep. Knocking on the door, she walked in smiling at the older man in the bed.
"Hello again, here's some meds for you. All the usual culprits!"
She smiled as he chuckled, enjoying her antics. She looked up at the bedside TV he had on and noticed that he was watching the pre-game show for the Bruins that night. She shook her head a little and signed off on all the sheets she needed to saying that he had taken his meds. Tucking her bangs behind her ears, she looked up as the man spoke.
"There they are, all down the hatchet."
"Perfect! You know what that means, I get to leave you alone for the night."
He chuckled lightly and smiled at her, "you know I like you, hun. Why can't they all be like you?"
"The world can't handle all that crazy Mr. Johns." She said with a smile on her face.
"I think the world needs a little more of your kinda crazy if you ask me."
She glanced up at the TV noticing that all of the players were starting to take the ice for warm-ups and she stared at it for a second, but was broken out of her trance by his voice again.
"You know, I hope that there's a good man waiting for you at home."
She chuckled and looked back up at the TV before answering, "sadly, there isn't."
He looked slightly shocked at her response. "You've gotta be kidding me, a good girl like you hasn't been snatched up yet?"
"Not quite, almost though." She smiled, grabbing the papers off the table as she started to move around the bed, before Mr. Johns grabbed her hand.
"I hope he knows how lucky he is and smartens up soon."
She chuckled at the serious tone in his voice and patted the top of his hand as he released hers.
"I'll pass on the message. Have a good night."
She walked out of the room and headed back to the desk putting the papers back in the chart she was working in before scrawling a few more things down. As she closed the chart she looked back up at the clock noticing she had ten minutes left. Sighing, she saw one of the other students coming out of the back room smiling.
"We're getting off a whole TEN minutes early tonight, can you believe it?!"
Liz chuckled, "I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with myself for all that time!"
"I know right." The girls shared a chuckle as she started to head to the elevator. "Have a good night!"
Liz smiled, "You too!"
Relieved, she headed to the back room pulling her stethoscope off from around her neck and tossing it on her bag that was sitting on the back table. Walking over to the coat rack she grabbed her coat pulling it on and reached for her phone that was zipped up in it's pocket. Hitting the button the screen lit up and she saw the words "New Message: Hotshot" pop up on her screen. Smiling, she grabbed her bag and headed to the door, bidding a few floor nurses a good night before heading to the elevator. Once she was in the elevator she opened her phone, reading the message that awaited her.
"I know you probably won't be watching, but I'll do my best to score AND get in a fight for you tonight ;)"
She smiled down at the screen of the phone before depositing it back in her pocket knowing that he wouldn't be checking it again until after the game.

Her drive from the hospital to her apartment felt like it took forever, and when she walked in she saw her roommate plus a few other of her friends sitting on the couch watching the Bruins game on the TV. Chuckling to herself she dropped her bag on the floor and shrugged off her coat.
"Nice viewing choice ladies."
They all turned around smiling at her, everyone saying a simultaneous 'hello'.
"Good! You're home! You going to come and watch your sexy lover man with us?" Her roommate said with a smirk and a shimmy of the shoulders.
Pulling her hair out of her ponytail she laughed, "Sexy lover man, that is a new one! I'll be out after my shower, how about that?"
"Okay, but shower quick! It's already started!"
She rolled her eyes chuckling and pulling her scrub top off as she headed towards the bathroom.
Ten minutes later she was donning her pyjamas and joined them in the living room, a glass of wine and her phone in hand. Curling up in the chair she pulled a blanket over her and looked over to the other girls.
"Miss anything good?"
"Not yet, it's just starting to get good though!"
She chuckled at her friends enthusiasm, wishing she could share the same but exhaustion was quickly taking over. With two minutes left in the first period, the boys got the puck and were rushing back into their opponents end. She tried to keep the smile off of her face as she saw the number 54 go whizzing into place, and focused back on the game. Before she knew it, he had the puck and was driving it to the net. Before she even realized it had went in, her friends were cheering loudly.
"Look at that!"
"He scored!"
"Go sexy lover man!"
She started at the screen with a wide smile on her face, thinking of the text that she had received earlier that day. They showed him skating across the bench getting fist bumps from all the guys, and Segs was waiting for him at the door of the ice. He fist bumped him and reached up, rubbing his gloved hand over his helmet. She shook her head at this action, knowing that Tyler most likely knew about the text that was sent earlier as well. She grabbed her phone and opened it, pulling up the message and typing.
'Well well well, a man of his word. Nice goal, hotshot ;)'
Dropping her phone back on her lap, she looked up feeling 3 pairs of eyes on her.
"Hey.." She said warily.
"You haven't said anything yet, but you're awfully smiley over there Miss Erin."
She smiled again and cuddled into the blanket. "Oh trust me, I'm thrilled. But I'm also exhausted, so my level of thrilled isn't indicative in my body language."
Her roommate scooted over to her on the floor and rested an arm on the chair. "So who'd you text?" She said with an innocent smile and batting her eyes.
"Someone who promised me a goal and a fight tonight."
Her friends broke out into giggles as her roommate shook her knee slightly.
"One out of two and it's only the first period. I think you might be improving someone's game there miss!"
She rolled her eyes playfully and nudged her roommate away cuddling back into the chair.
By the end of the game, not only had he kept his promise of scoring a goal, but also had earned himself a five minute fighting major for a nasty brawl with a jerk on the other team. As Liz laid in bed ready to sleep for the night, she grabbed her phone opening it back up to her messages and typing another one.
'Goal and a five minute major, man of substance right there. I feel like I should get credit for those somehow ;)'
She sent off the message and yawned a huge yawn knowing that she wasn't going to last long enough to read the response he would send once he was out of the locker room, so she sent him another.
'I'm off to dreamland, have a celebratory drink for me. :)' She hit send, dropping her phone on the nightstand and drifting off to sleep.

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
