With four away games in seven days in the books for the Bruins, Adam was very grateful to finally be back in his apartment Saturday night. Dropping his bag by the door, he walked over to the couch and collapsed on it closing his eyes. Dougie closed the door and followed him in heading to the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge. Leaning up against the island in the kitchen he shouted to his friend on the couch.
"So am I cool to stay here tonight, or is your lady friend coming over?"
He smiled to himself, glad that he was finally in the same city as Liz again. They had kept in touch during the week texting each other throughout the day and the odd phone call at night and he had to admit he liked knowing there was someone other than the guys on the team he could talk to every day.
"Nah, she's not coming over tonight."
Dougie raised his eyebrow and headed out to the living room.
"Gone for a week and you're not jumping on that ASAP?"
Adam opened his eyes to look over at his roommate.
"We're going out tomorrow night."
"A date? As in she won't be barely dressed in some room of our apartment?"
Adam chuckled, knowing the only times he had met Liz, she was in different states of undress.
"Well I can't promise what might happen after the date, but during the date she will definitely be clothed."
"Make me a deal okay?"
Adam raised his eyebrow at Dougie and shrugged, "Sure?"
"At least let me meet her while she has clothes on for once?"
Adam laughed and covered his eyes again, "I guess I can do that, funny enough she brought up the same point."
"There's only so many times you can meet your roommates girlfriend in awkward situations before it just stars getting old." Dougie chuckled at the end of his comment and headed off through the living room towards his room.
Adam remained on the couch thinking about how Dougie had just referred to Liz as his girlfriend. He was hoping that would be the end result between them, and their conversation the afternoon before he left definitely had him hopeful. With that thought, he pulled his phone from his pocket opening it to his week long conversation with Liz.
'I hope you're relaxing since you're finally done that exam! Also, home safe!'
Too tired to move from his spot on the couch, he reached over and grabbed the remote turning on the TV they had anchored on the wall and settling for a re-run of whatever sitcom was currently on. His phone vibrated from its spot on the couch and he grabbed it, sliding his thumb across the screen revealing her message.
'yay :) you're finally home! Relaxing as much as I can, but I have a hot date tomorrow night I'm kinda nervous about ;)'
'Hot date, huh? No reason for you to be nervous haha just relax, grab a blanket, watch a movie, something!'
He smiled to himself as he thought of her being nervous for their date. The more he thought about it he felt himself get nervous. Liz was definitely different than any other girl he had dated and he wanted to keep her around for as long as he could, he just hoped that she felt the same.
'how did you know that's exactly what I'm doing? Gotta say, it would be a lot comfier if you were here…'
He smiled at her message, and instead of texting her back he scrolled to the top of the screen and hit the call button.
"Hello?"
"I'm psychic."
He heard her lightly chuckle from the other end of the phone.
"Thanks for the update?"
"Response to your last question, I want to talk to you, but I'm too tired to keep typing."
She was silent for a second before she responded quietly, "That's sweet. Most guys would just stop answering."
"Well I'd like to think I'm not like most guys."
"You're showing that, Mr. McQuaid."
"So would it actually be comfier if I was over there with you, or were you just trying to up my ego?"
She chuckled, "it really would be comfier, but I've lasted a whole week without you I can last one more night."
"As long as you don't get too nervous that you back out on me."
"Again, waited a whooooole week! You're stuck with me tomorrow night!"
"Speaking of tomorrow night, I'll pick you up aaattt… 7?"
"Okay, what should I wear?"
"Nice, but not too nice."
"Wow, that was the most specific answer I've ever gotten."
The two shared a chuckle.
"Don't make fun of me I'm tired!"
"Maybe you should sleep, don't need you falling asleep on me tomorrow night."
"That might just be a good idea, I'm dying over here." He chuckled tiredly.
"Poor baby.. Well get in bed, sleep, and I'll see you tomorrow night. Finally."
It was quiet for a second while he was thinking about the last word she spoke. He was hoping that the finally meant the same thing to her as it did to him and that she wanted to see him just as bad.
"You do the same, we're going to have to make up for lost time."
He could hear the smirk in her voice as she responded, "I like the way you're thinking. Well in that case you might want to sleep in tomorrow morning."
"I think I just might. Night Liz."
"Night Adam."

It was late Sunday afternoon and Liz stood in a towel, staring at her closet. She had no idea what to wear for her date tonight, and it was starting to stress her out.
"Nice, but not too nice. What the hell kind of description is that?!" She mumbled to herself before crossing her arms over her chest, continuing to stare at her clothes.
A couple seconds later, Julie popped her head into the room.
"Is there someone else in here, or are you just talking to yourself?"
"I'm having a crisis!"
Julie chuckled, moving into the room and plopping down in the middle of the bed.
"A crisis? That sounds like a little much for a girl going on a date with a guy who is absolutely head over heels for her tonight."
She turned, facing her roommate. "He is not head over heels for me. And I have no idea what to wear."
"You read me some of the texts he sent you while he was away, if you remember, and he is indeed head over heels." She stood up and walked over to the closet Liz was standing in front of. "Now what's the dress code?"
"Nice, but not too nice. Useless!"
"You think it's useless because you want to impress. That's why I'm here! I'm just jealous that you landed that hot piece of ass."
She gave the back of her friends head a look, "he's more than just a piece of ass, Jules. But I do want to impress. Although, that is one of his best features."
Julie rustled through the items in her closet before throwing a shirt at her, followed by a cardigan and then moving to her dresser where her jeans were picking a pair of those and throwing it on top of the pile.
"There you go. Put that on and you'll be breaking hearts."
Julie plopped back on the bed as Liz ran to the washroom to change into her outfit, when she came back into her room she stood with her arms out and twirled slowly.
"I did good."
Liz moved to stand in front of her full length mirror looking at herself, "I have to agree with you."
"And your ass looks great in those jeans, he won't be able to keep his eyes off of it!"
"Good! Now what do I do with this hair."
"Jesus girl, I didn't realize I was becoming your stylist for the night." She groaned as she rolled off the bed and over to the mirror pushing her down to sit on the floor as she grabbed the straightening iron from the shelf.
"So since I'm doing your hair for you, you have to spill about this guy. Because the only things I know about him are he's a gorgeous hockey player who is head over heels for you and that's just not enough for me!"
"Uhm. I don't know what else to tell you."
She looked up in the mirror to see Julie giving her a stern look.
"Okay, I might be lying. Last weekend before he left he told me he wanted me to be around still when he got back. And then he told me that he thinks he really likes me and I told him I think I really like him too…"
"You two are already way too much and you barely know this guy! You met him what, three weeks ago? And I know for a fact you've done it every time you've been around him since that night because you're always in a ridiculously good mood. What the hell are you guys going to be like when you're married with little babies running around?"
"Whoa whoa whoa, we've known each other three weeks and you're already marrying me off with babies?!"
"Oh get off it, you know you want it to happen!"
"Well maybe, but I've known him three weeks! What if he's an asshole, and he's just hiding it?"
"If he is, I'll buy you a pony. That's how confident about it not happening I am!"
"I will take you up on that, you know I've always wanted a pony."
Julie put the finishing touch on Liz's hair and stepped back.
"Tada. You're fini."
Liz stood up, looking at her hair and outfit combination and turned to Julie smiling.
'You're a genius. I love you."
"I love you too, now put some make-up on that pretty face of yours and you're ready for your hot date!"
Five minutes later Liz stood in front of her mirror looking at herself making sure that everything was perfect. She flattened out the the cardigan and took in her straight brown hair with a slight curl at the end. She definitely thought this fell into the nice but not too nice category and smiled to herself in approval. She heard a knock on the apartment door and whipped around looking at her clock; 6:58. Running to grab her purse from her closet door she heard Julie yell a quick 'got it' as she pulled it from its spot. Doing one last mirror check on her way out, she nodded at her reflection and headed out into the living room. When she got to the end of the hall she turned into the living room and smiled as he came into her vision. He hadn't seen her coming because he was chatting with Julie, but when he noticed she was heading towards them he looked up and a smile soon appeared on his face to match hers.
"Hey." She softly said as she approached them and tucked her bangs behind her ear.
"Hey." He repeated in a similar tone.
Neither of them noticed Julie roll her eyes as she started walking away. "Have fun love birds! Remember, use protection!"
As she heard the door to Julie's room close, she chuckled and shook her head. "Sorry for her, she's a little much sometimes."
He smiled down at her, "it was good advice, no need to apologize."
She looked up to meet his smile and felt a blush rise in her cheeks, she had no idea why he did this to her, but she definitely wasn't complaining.
"You look fantastic."
"You're just saying that 'cause you haven't seen me in a week." She chuckled and fidgeted with her hair.
He grabbed the hand that was in her hair and pulled it down, the smile from before still on his face.
"That is a factor, but you really do."
"Well thank you, sir. You ready to go?"
"Not yet."
The content look on her face quickly changed to one of slight confusion at his response. He closed the space in between them and placed his hand on her cheek pulling her face up to his, kissing her softly. As he pulled away, she moved her hand up to the back of his neck pulling him back down to her continuing the kiss. He gladly obliged as his arm circled her waist pulling her body closer to his and she rested her other hand on his arm. After a few minutes of this, a voice rang out from down the hall.
"You're going to miss dinner if you keep that up."
They broke away from each other laughing at Julie's remark.
"She's right." Liz chuckled.
"I can't say I would mind, but let's go."
He opened the door and motioned for her to go ahead of him as he followed her out closing the door behind him. As they walked down the hall towards the elevator she slid her hand into his, enjoying the warmth.
"I'm really glad to see you. Finally."
"I'm really glad to see you too, a week is way too long."
She sighed slightly, "completely agreed."
The elevator door opened and they walked in. Adam looked down at her while the doors closed.
"Still nervous?"
"I'm always nervous around you," Liz admitted staring at her feet. She looked up slightly as she said, "I'm just really good at hiding it."
He noticed the slight blush that had re-appeared on her cheeks after her admittance and smiled slightly at her.
"There's no reason to be nervous around me."
"There is when you make me feel like this." She looked up at him more this time, her hand still placed in his. The doors opened and they walked out and down the hallway towards the parking lot.
He didn't say anything in response to her, but he walked towards the car trying his best to hide the smile that wanted to work its way onto his face. The night was young, but it was becoming more clear to him that maybe the feelings he was starting to have for Liz were going to be reciprocated. As they approached the car, he stepped in front of her opening the door for her to get in. She smiled and said a small thank you as she slid into the car. He walked around the other side letting out breath of nerves as he got in his side. When he was in, he looked over at Liz who was already looking at him.
"So, where are we going hotshot?"
"I can't tell you that."
"That kinda makes it sound like you're going to take me to a back ally somewhere and have me killed…"
"Damn it, you figured it out." He said with a smirk.
"I'm just so good at these things! I can read people you know?"
The pair shared a laugh and little did they know they were both sharing the same thought of how easy it was to be around each other.
"Well, I can tell you that it's not a dark ally somewhere, but that's about all I can tell you."
"Oh come on, please?"
He chuckled at her over exaggerated pout and reached his free hand across the middle of the car and laced his fingers through hers.
"And give away the big reveal? I don't think so."

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
