Always

Liz was extremely happy for a nice long home game stretch as she woke up the next morning wrapped up in her boyfriends arms. After the night they had spent together, neither of them were going to be getting out of bed anytime soon to do anything productive. Letting out a yawn she cuddled closer into Adam's chest and closed her eyes again relishing in the warmth his body provided. She pressed a light kiss to his shoulder as she felt him stir beside her. She didn't open her eyes until she felt him brush a wild piece of hair out of her face. Looking up at him she was greeted with the sleepy, smiley face of the man she loved.
"Morning." He said in his raspy, low morning voice.
She smiled, loving how sexy he was in the morning. "Morning."
He tried to stifle a yawn, but failed miserably. Liz chuckled and kissed the underside of his scruffy chin.
"Someone tire you out last night hotshot?"
"Maybe, but she was worth it."
"Oh was she?" She said with a smirk.
He chuckled lightly and rotated over onto his back pulling her on top of him, running his fingers lightly down her exposed back.
"Yeah. She's pretty amazing."
Liz smiled as she rested her chin on his chest, looking down at him as she played with some of the wild curls at the top of his head. She studied everything about him in that moment, taking in all of the small scars scattered over his face that served as reminders of his many brawls over the years. Her eyes made their way down his face and fell on his lips, which did not go unnoticed by him. He leaned up capturing her lips with his and noted the feeling of her smiling into their morning kiss. He ran his fingers down her back again and smiled as she shuddered under the light touch.
"I love you." He said, his voice still low.
She closed her eyes and a light smile appeared on her face.
"I'm never gonna get tired of hearing that."
"Good, because I'm never going to get tired of saying it."
She rested her head on his chest contently, pressing a light kiss to his collar bone.
"I love you, too."
The pair remained like that for a while before Liz's phone stared ringing from the floor beside the bed. She sighed, not wanting to move from her extremely comfortable spot on top of Adam. Her wish came true when the ringing stopped, but her hopes were shattered when it started up again less than a minute later. She felt the rumble of Adam's chuckle through her chest.
"You should probably get that."
"But I'm really comfy here." She whined.
"I promise I'll still be here after you answer the phone."
"Fiiiine." She slid off of him to the edge of the bed grabbing her phone out of the clutch that was on the floor. Grabbing the phone, she saw Brit's face on the screen and sighed hitting the answer button.
"This better be good."
"So you ARE alive. Thanks for telling us you were leaving, we kinda freaked out when you were no where to be found by 12:30."
She rolled her eyes and flipped over on her back looking over at Adam.
"I figured you knew exactly where we went considering you were the one who picked out the dress." She chuckled slightly at the end. She heard Brit yell a muffled, 'you were right! They went home to fuck!' And she shook her head at her friends choice of wording. Adam looked at her and brought his head closer.
"I love you for that dress choice, Brit."
She chuckled and shook her head at him, "She doesn't need any help from you!"
"Oh whatever! Tell him he's very welcome, but I hope he didn't rip it as he was trying to get it off of you last night. I'm surprised his eyes didn't burn holes in it the way he was staring at you all night."
Adam's face was inches away from hers since he neglected to move his head back after relaying his message to Brit. They laid there staring intently into each others eyes before Liz spoke again.
"Yeah, it's still in one piece. Can I call you back later Brit?"
"Oh my god, I interrupted something! Sorry! Yes! Go! USE PROTECTION!"
They both heard Brit's last exclaimed statement and Liz chuckled as she ended the call and dropped the phone on the nightstand beside her bed.
"I was going to suggest breakfast in bed, but how about we skip the breakfast part for now?" Adam said, a smirk creeping up his features as he manoeuvred himself, perching overtop of her and capturing her lips hungrily with his own.

A couple hours later Adam and Liz sat at her kitchen table munching on the simple brunch they had made together. Adam sat scrolling through his phone looking at the latest team reports and Liz sat flipping through hilarious drunken new years eve tweets on her iPad. She heard a beeping, indicating that someone had just gotten a text and knew that it was Adam from the look on his face. She looked over at him eyebrow raised and he set his phone down looking over at her.
"What?"
"Well, there may be something I forgot to mention over the past couple days…"
She set her iPad down and studied his face, trying to gauge what this news would be.
"And that is?"
"My family's coming to town tomorrow."
She could feel her heart beat picking up speed as she stared at him with a completely blank face.
"Your what?"
"I'm sorry, I meant to tell you when you got back from Canada but then we had the game and last night and I just completely forgot."
Liz didn't mean to completely tune him out, but suddenly a million thoughts went running through her head. What if his parents didn't like her? She was the reason that he didn't go home for Christmas this year like he had mentioned he was planning to. He had never really talked a lot about his family other than a few stories here or there. She knew that he had a brother and a sister, but did they even know about her? As these things ran through her head she felt him grab the hand that previously held the iPad.
"Hey, you in there?"
"Yeah, sorry." She replied quietly.
"What's going on in that gorgeous head of yours?"
She thought about lying to him and brushing it off, but the look in his eyes told her that she wouldn't be able to get away with that. She let out a sigh, "I'm just worried…"
"You have absolutely nothing to worry about."
"How do you know? What if they don't like me?"
"They're going to love you."
"How do you know that? How fucked up would it be if my family loves you and yours hates me?"
He sighed and scooted his chair closer to hers. "They're not going to hate you Liz."
"You're just saying that to try and make me feel better, but I don't exactly have the best history with boyfriends mothers."
"I'm not just saying that and my mom won't hate you. You know why I know? Because I love you and my mom knows that. She's actually kind of excited to meet 'the girl who's been taking up all of her son's time'." He added the last part in quotation marks.
She groaned and dropped her head onto her forearms, "that's mom code for the whore who's fucking my son."
He chuckled and shook his head at her overreaction and leaned down kissing the top of her head.
"She doesn't think you're a whore."
"Great, so it's just the fucking her son part." She mumbled into her arms.
He chuckled again and moved down to kiss her neck. "She can deal with that part, cause that's not changing anytime soon."
She lifted her head to look up at him, a small smile finally tugging on her lips.
"Well that's a relief."
He smiled and grabbed her chin pulling her face up to his to place a kiss on her lips.
"No more overreacting. They're flying in tomorrow morning, I have to pick them up and take them to their hotel before practice. I got them tickets to the game tomorrow night," he paused for a second and then continued slowly, "and I got you one too, if you're okay with sitting with them?"
She licked her lips, noticing the small plea that was on his face.
"Of course I'll sit with them."
He smiled and stole a second kiss from her. "Thank you."
"After everything you've done for me, the least I can do for you is sit with your family for one game." She chuckled, running a hand through his mess of curls.
"Well I didn't know after I sprung the news on you."
"I'm sorry I freaked out, I'm just not good with boyfriends families, but your family made you the way you are and I love you, so I should love them too."
His smile quickly turned into a half smirk, "yeah, especially after agreeing that last nights new years kiss was the first of many years to come."
"Exactly, I'm going to have to meet them someday. Even if you did give me the least possible amount of time to prepare." She winked at him as she stood up and grabbed her plate from the table heading over to the sink rinsing it off.
As she placed the plate in the bottom of the sink, she felt arms wrap around her waist and a chin on her shoulder.
"Have I told you how much I love you yet?" He spoke quietly into her ear.
"Maybe once or twice, but I won't stop you from telling me again." She smiled, leaning back into his strong chest.
"Well then. I," he kissed the spot under her ear, "love," he moved his lips down to kiss the base of her neck, "you," he placed a final kiss to the top of her shoulder.
