Quality Time

The rest of the day went by fairly quietly, both of them just lazing around Liz's apartment enjoying the time off they had together. The next morning Liz could feel herself being woken up by the light feeling of fingers trailing down her arm. She slowly opened her eyes and looked up at Adam who was already dressed and ready to go for the day.
"Morning babe."
Liz stretched her arms above her head and yawned before returning his greeting.
"Look at you all productive and ready for the day."
He chuckled and leaned down to kiss her forehead. "Have to go pick up my family at the airport and then head off to practice."
At the mention of his family she woke up with a start and sat up resting her head back on the head board. He smiled at her sudden change in demeanour and ran a hand through her matted morning hair.
"Relax, no more freaking out remember? I'm going to take them to their hotel and after practice we're going to meet up for lunch. I'll text you when I'm coming to get you, okay?"
She leaned up pressing her lips to his. "Sounds perfect."
He kissed her again before standing up and grabbing his bag off of the floor.
"Have a good practice, be safe."
"Will do," he turned sending her a wink before he was gone from her sight.

A few hours later and Liz was showered and ready to meet Adam's parents. Her phone vibrated from the pocket of her sweater and she grabbed it not expecting Adam to be on his way yet. Looking down at the screen she saw Katie's name on the screen.
'I hear you had a pretty good New Years ;) See you in the box tonight for all the good details?'
'Eh, wasn't too shabby ;) I'll be at the game, but not in the box…'
'ditching us for gross boys again? ouch.'
'Not gross boys… Adam's family…'
'WHAT?! I didn't know they were in town!'
'I didn't either until yesterday, they just got in this morning.'
'First time meeting them?'
'Yeah, and honestly I'm kinda freaking out..'
'Don't freak out, I've met his parents before and they're sweethearts. Plus you know they're going to love you.'
'I'm not so sure…'
'Please, you won over every player and their significant others without hardly talking to them! You're definitely going to win the McQuaid's over.'
She sighed and ran her hand through her hair as she felt her phone vibrate again, this time it was Adam.
'Hey babe, on my way to you. Relax, they're excited to meet you.'
Instead of replying to Adam, she pulled up Katie's message.
'Well, here goes nothing… heading to lunch with them. I'll let you know how it goes later?'
'They'll love you. I promise! I want all the details of everything next time we talk!'
Putting her phone back in her pocket she got up and headed to her room grabbing her purse and jacket on her way to the door. As she was sliding on her shoes she heard the buzzer from the door. Letting all her nerves go in one big sigh, she headed downstairs and was met with a smiling Adam waiting at the door for her.
"Hey," he leaned down to kiss her, "you look great." He offered her his arm and they headed off to his car.
"Thanks," she smiled up at him and noticed the perma smile that hadn't left his face. "Someone's happy this afternoon."
"Of course I am. Families in town and my girlfriends on my arm, it's only gonna get better from here."

20 minutes later they had pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant and Liz let out a quiet sigh. Adam unbuckled his seatbelt and turned to face her.
"You're going to be fine. Remember, they're going to love you."
He leaned forward to give her a reassuring kiss.
She smiled at him. "And I'm going to love them."
He kissed her forehead and got out of the car heading around to her side to open the door for her. She grabbed her purse and got out of the car immediately feeling Adam's arm around her waist. She relaxed into his side as they walked towards the building, knowing exactly how much he wanted this to work out well and she figured if he believed it, there was no reason she shouldn't too. Walking into the restaurant she took one last deep breath in and forced all of the negative thoughts out of her head. She knew that Adam had spotted his family when she noticed the grin that spread across his face. Her eyes rested on his face for a second noticing the almost child like happiness his face held at getting to have his family in Boston. She spotted a small blonde woman standing up a smile almost identical to the one on Adam's spread across her face. They approached the table and the woman walked over, wrapping her arms around Adam in a tight hug. She chuckled at the scene in front of her considering he was easily over a foot taller than her. After she released him she pulled back and looked right at Liz.
"So this must be Liz." Liz returned her smile and was a little caught off guard when she felt the woman pulling her into a hug. "It's so good to finally meet you!"
"You too Mrs. McQuaid."
"Oh none of that, it's Dianne." She looked up at her son, "She's gorgeous, Adam."
She chuckled and blushed at the comment as Adam smiled and shook his head lightly.
"Guys, this is Liz. Liz, that's my dad Mark, brother Chad and sister Michelle."
"It's great to meet everyone!" She smiled looking around the table at the group.
Adam pulled out the chair that was beside his sister and motioned for Liz to sit down. She sat down and Adam sat beside her, resting his hand on her knee under the table and giving it a squeeze. She looked over at him and couldn't help but smile at the look on his face. As she looked back at the group she noticed the look that Adam's mom and dad had shared and smiled again, so far it seems that things were going well.
"So Liz, tell us about yourself."
She looked over at Adam's dad and smiled.
"Well, I'm in school right now, my second year."
"What are you taking?" She heard from Dianne.
"Nursing."
She smiled as both parents nodded lightly, looking as though they were happy with that.
"Good," she chuckled, "he could use one of those!"
The next question came fielded from his sister, "You from Boston?"
"No, actually from a small town up in Ontario."
"Leave it up to you to find a Canadian girl in Boston." His brother nudged him playfully.
"Nothing better than a Canadian girl, Chad. Come on." Michelle spoke from the other side of Liz. She looked over at her and chuckled "It's okay, I've got your back with these goons," she chuckled.
"We'll be stronger against them as a team," Liz added playfully.
Michelle smiled, "I like the way you think, Liz."
Liz chuckled and turned her head as she felt an arm drape across the back of her chair. Looking at Adam she smiled and rubbed his leg under the table.
"Love you."
"Love you, too."

After an afternoon of family time that turned out to be 100% better than Liz could have ever imagined, they were both bidding the McQuaid's a farewell. They went around exchanging hugs, even though the next time they would see each other would be later that night at the game.
Dianne hugged Liz and pulled her back, holding her at the shoulders. "You're coming to the game tonight, right?"
"Yep!"
"And sitting with us?"
"Of course, it'll be the best cheering section in the house." She chuckled and Dianne hugged her again.
"Wonderful!"
The last person for Liz to get to was his sister.
"Sorry about her, she's just really excited."
"That's okay," she chuckled.
"It is nice to finally meet the girl Adam's head over heels with though."
Liz just smiled, not sure how to reply to that. "I"ll see you at the game?"
She nodded and headed over to her parents who were heading towards the door. Liz headed back to Adam and he wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
"You ready to go?"
"Yeah, you?"
"Let's go then."
When they were back on the road to Liz's apartment Adam glanced over to her.
"So, was it as horrible as you thought? Because they obviously hated your guts." She looked over at him and noted the smirk that was plain on his face.
"Hardy har har. So maybe I freaked out for nothing."
"Maybe?"
"Fine. I did. They're fantastic."
"And they loved you. My mom may be more excited that you're sitting with them at the game than being at the game to watch me play."
She chuckled and reached her hand between them to lace her fingers with the hand that he had resting on the gear shift.
"I'll be excited to watch you play, sound fair?" She chuckled.
"I donno.. she is my own mother…" he raised an eyebrow playfully.
"Well just remember, she might be your mother, but I can reward you better after the game's over."
He looked over at her to see her face dawning a small smirk and she wiggled her eyebrows.
"Alright, I guess I'll take you."
"Man, you sure know how to make a lady feel special."
He smirked and brought their laced hands up to his face placing a light kiss on her knuckles. Pulling into his buildings parking lot he looked over at her questioningly.
"I guess I never asked if it was okay if you just came back here instead of your place.."
"It's fine, as long as you let me borrow one of your many Bruins shirts for the game tonight. Can't be sitting with the McQuaid's and not repping my man."
Undoing his seatbelt, he leaned across the centre console and placed a hand on her cheek.
"I love you." He closed the distance between them, pressing his lips to hers.
"Love you more."
He chuckled and pecked her lips.
"I'm not too sure about that one."
A devilish smirk crossed her face, "tie breaker?"
"I like the way you think, but Dougie's up there."
She sighed jokingly, "that Dougie, he's no good."

A few hours later, Liz was sitting in the buzzing stands of the Garden clad in her overly large #54 long sleeve shirt and surrounded by the rest of the McQuaid family. On one side of her she had Adam's dad and brother and the other side was his mom and sister. Adam had managed to get them fairly good seats, a row up behind the home bench. She chuckled as she heard the differences in conversations being carried out on either side of her. The boys were talking standings and how the team was looking compared to last season at this time and the girls were, of course, talking about how cute some of the guys were.
Liz was shaken out of her focus by a question from Dianne. "So Liz, we were thinking earlier and you never told us how you and Adam met!"
She chuckled and was interrupted by a sudden roar from the crowd as the Bruins took the ice for warm up. Waiting for the noise to die down a little, they watched the guys skate their few laps before settling into routine. Tyler skated over to the boards, grabbing for some tape when he looked up and noticed Liz and gave her an enthusiastic wave, knowing who she was sitting with.
She laughed and looked back over to Michelle and Dianne. "That clown is how we met."
"You met through Seguin?"
"Yeah, I'm friends with his roommate, we go to school together, and they dragged me out to a game and made me come out after them for their post-game celebrations and that just happened to be one of the nights Adam decided to join them," she shrugged, "it was just all in the timing."
Dianne smiled at her and reached across Michelle to pat Liz's knee. "Well let me tell you that I'm quite happy he met you."
She smiled warmly at how accepting the older woman was of her already after only knowing her for an afternoon.
"Thanks, that means a lot."
"I could tell by the smile on his face he's quite taken by you."
"Feeling's quite mutual."
Liz looked back down at the ice and tried to find the black and gold #54. When she did she watched him take his rush to the net and skate back down the boards. As he was heading back to the line, he looked up in the direction he knew he had sat his family. Noticing Liz looking at him he sent her a smirk and a quick wink. She sent him back one and he stopped, focusing up on her. He made a motion with his stick like he was shooting the puck and then punched the air in front of him with is fist and pointed up to her. She chuckled and blew him a kiss and he skated back into line.
Neither of the men really noticed, too enveloped in what else was happening on the ice and the technical side of it, but the women definitely noticed.
Michelle lightly nudged Liz and looked at her with a confused smirk.
"And what the heck did that mean?"
Liz chuckled, "that means he's gonna get a goal and a fighting major just for me."
Michelle chuckled slightly and playfully rolled her eyes. "Oh god, you guys are already too much for me."

Notes

I suck. I work 2 jobs, do 2 shifts of placement and still have to add school work on top of that. SO, I neglect writing this stuff out!

BUT HERE'S THE NEXT ONE AND SHE'S FINALLY MET THEM!
I'm assuming his family would be adorable considering he's adorable, so that's how I wrote them!
I hope you all enjoy! And (fingers crossed) the next one will be up sooner because I already have half written!
AND GUESS WHAT, THAT ONE HAS SOME D-R-A-M-A!

Your wish is my command!

As always, comment, subscribe, etc etc. IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS, LET ME KNOW! thanks to the ladies who did last week, you're great! :D

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
