Good Morning, Good Morning

Liz woke up and looked around her, the room was pitch black, but from what she could see she wasn't in her own room. As she started to wake up more, she remembered the events of last night and looked over to her right noticing the figure beside her. She sat up, contemplating to herself whether she should just go back to sleep or go back to her own apartment. Thinking about it, she decided that this had just been a one night stand and she should probably head back to her place to avoid any awkwardness in the morning. She got up, grabbing her shirt from the floor and pulling it over her head before she walked around searching for her jeans. She found them and bent down to grab them pulling them on as quietly as she could with her back to the bed.
Adam heard someone walking around and opened his eyes rolling over to see that the spot beside him was empty. He looked to the side of the room, noticing Liz pulling on her jeans and grabbing some of the other items she had strewn around the room. He looked over to his alarm clock with showed that it was 4:30 in the morning and was confused as to why she was leaving so early.
"What are you doing?" His voice thick with sleep and the remainder of last nights alcohol.
She turned around , but then continued to pick up her things.
"Heading home."
He propped himself up on an elbow to see her better.
"Why?" He tried not to seem too desperate as he asked this question.
"I just figured it would be better to leave now than awkwardly leave in the morning.."
"Why would it be awkward?"
Liz opened her mouth to answer, but then realized that maybe he didn't see last night the way she thought he would, like Tyler or Brad, and stood there motionless. He took her lack of anything to say as a clue to keep going and patted the side of the bed she previously occupied.
"Come on, there's no sense you going home now. Besides, its always better to sleep off a night of drinking with someone else beside you."
She chuckled at his far fetched logic, but after a few seconds of looking at him and taking in the adorable sleepy eyed, messy haired man in front of her, she sighed pulling her shirt off and removing her jeans again, crawling back into bed.
"There, happy now?" She asked, a joking tone to her voice.
"Not quite," he opened the arm closest to her and nodded for her to move into the awaiting space. She did as he requested and cuddled into his side, making herself comfy and loving the warmth that he provided.
"There, now I'm happy."

The next morning, Adam woke up, stretching out and looking over at his alarm clock to see that it was now 10 AM. Not feeling the weight of another person on the other side of the bed he looked over to see that she was, for the second time that morning, not there. He sighed and sat at the edge of the bed, rubbing his hands over his face and grabbed his boxers that were at the side of the bed. Standing up he looked around noticing that her clothes were still on the floor beside the bed and furrowed his eyebrows making his way out of his room to find her.
Liz stood at the stove in Adam's kitchen pouring batter into a pan that she had heated up on the stove. After her almost departure earlier, she had decided that the least she could do for him was make breakfast. In her sleepy state, she had grabbed his shirt off the floor of his bedroom and threw it on, neglecting to grab any pants, but she didn't think that she would hear any complaints. Suddenly she felt hands on her waist and lips on her neck.
"Good morning."
She smirked to herself and replied, "morning." She turned around to face him and mimicked him placing her hands on his hips, smiling up at him, "I made breakfast." She nodded to the plate of pancakes sitting on the counter.
He looked down at her, taking in how beautiful she looked standing in his kitchen with her hair messed up from the night before wearing nothing but his shirt. "I see that." He slid his hands around so he had a good grab on her ass and leaned down to kiss her. "Good thing it'll still taste good cold."
She looked at him with a confused look across her features and he reached behind her to turn off the stove. Picking her up he turned them around so he could place her on the counter and set her down gently, moving his hands to cup her face as he kissed her again. She responded to this, wrapping her legs around his back and tangled her hands in his mess of curly hair. She couldn't get over the way she felt every time he touched her, let alone every time he kissed her. He pulled away from the kiss looking down at her face.
"What do you say we leave the pancakes here and head back to the bedroom?"
She smirked and kissed him again. That was all the go ahead he needed as he picked her back up, moving from the direction he had previously came.

Around noon, the pair sat at the stools in the kitchen eating their cold pancakes. Fully dressed this time, Adam had given Liz one of his old Bruins shirts to pair with her jeans so she wouldn't have to be quite so fancy. They sat in the kitchen talking and laughing, when they heard the door open. Adam looked behind him to see Dougie entering the apartment, hockey bag over his shoulder.
When Dougie had spotted him he yelled out, "Dude! Where the hell did you go last night, everyone was looking for you and that Liz chick."
Adam scrunched his face up at the young guys comment and closed his eyes laughing, Liz looked over at Adam and chuckled at his reaction to the other man before leaning over in front of him so Dougie could see her.
"I'm Liz, nice to meet you." She waved slightly and noticed that his face and went pale.
"Oh shit, man. I'm sorry, you know they said that you got her to go home with you, but I didn't even. Man, sorry." They both chuckled, watching him trip over his words and quickly run off to his room as he realized the mistake he had made.
"It was gonna come out sooner or later, it's not like subtlety was a big thing last night." Liz chuckled as she grabbed her juice glass and took a sip.
"True." Adam nodded, finishing the last bite of his pancakes.
"But I'm glad I was the one who got to take you home." He looked over at her studying her features again.
"Well, you did score a goal for me after all." She shot him a glance, smirking at him. "If it wasn't for that goal…"
The pair shared a laugh as she hopped down from the stool. "I should get going."
"O-okay." Adam stuttered awkwardly as he got down off the stool, following her to the front door where her shoes and collection of her belongings were. They stood there awkwardly looking at each other before Liz spoke.
"I'll wash this and give it to Tyler to give to you."
His face fell a little at her comment, wondering if she said that because she didn't want to see him again.
"Or you could give it back to me yourself."
She looked up at him with a slightly shocked expression on her face. When she saw the look on his, a smile smile graced her face. "Yeah, I could do that."
He closed the space between them, kissing her gently.
"I had a great night."
She let out the breath she was holding before replying. "Me too."
He smirked before saying, "you make a pretty kick ass pancake too."
She laughed at his comment and leaned up to kiss him with a little more force than the last one. When she pulled away, she grabbed her phone out of her pocket and handed it to him, "unless you were just lying about wanting to see me again."
He grabbed the phone away from her and handed her his and they each entered their numbers in the others phone.
"You know, I might have to start coming to games more often. They seem a little more appealing now."
"I think you should, I play a pretty good game when you're around." He said with a smile, handing her back her phone.
"Yeah," she took her phone from him and handed his back, "funny how that works."
He studied the shy look she had on her face, which had no reason to be there. After last night and this morning there was no reason for her to by shy around him, but he loved it anyway. He couldn't help it and leaned down to kiss her again, moving his hand up to her cheek. She melted into the kiss and rested her free hand on his chest. After a few minutes, Liz pulled away.
"I need to go now, or I'm never going to leave." She breathed with a chuckle.
"Wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing," he responded.
"No, but I do have class later."
He rolled his eyes playfully, "alright then, go." After they both chuckled and she had grabbed her stuff, she stood outside his door glancing at him one last time before heading down the hallway to the elevator. She was almost to the doors when she heard him call. "See you later, Liz."
She turned to face him, but kept walking in the direction of the elevator. "I hope so." She smiled as she turned to hit the button. The doors open and she walked in, pressing lobby. Looking up, she saw him still standing at his door watching her and she gave him a small wave before the doors closed and he disappeared.

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
