Precious Moments

Two days later Liz and Adam laid in bed, trying to scrounge up whatever sleep they could manage. Liz was dead asleep, but Adam wasn't as lucky. Just as he was about to roll over he heard a whimper come from the corner of the room. Getting up he walked over to Amelia's bassinet lifting her squirming little body up and bringing her into his chest, when her whimpers didn't stop he headed out of the bedroom and down the hall to her nursery. Sitting down in the rocking chair beside the door he let out a yawn and sighed looking down at the fussy baby in his arms.
"What's the matter? Not happy that mom and dad are sleeping and not paying attention to you?"
She let out a tiny grunt and he chuckled, "well you know, dad starts playoffs next week and he needs some sleep."
Her eyes opened and she looked up at him, scrunching her nose up. "it's true. And you want dad and the guys to do good in playoffs right? You want to have your picture taken hanging out in the stanley cup."
She was still staring at him, listening to the deep sound of his voice. He brushed his finger across the top of her little hand that was resting on her chest, rubbing soft circles as he continued to talk.
"Speaking of playoffs, you've gotta be good for your mom. You're gonna be spending a lot of time with her and I don't want her to completely hate me for not being here to help take care of you for however long we're in."
Her other hand moved up to grab his finger and he smiled and leaned down pressing a kiss to her forehead.
"I'm gonna take that as a yes dad, I will be good for momma." He chuckled. "And I'm going to thank you, because I really don't want to be in the dog house all summer."

Liz rolled over in bed, sighing and reaching over to pull herself closer to Adam. When she felt an empty side of the bed she opened her eyes, looking around the room. Sitting up, she rubbed her eyes and looked over to Amelia's bassinet noticing that she wasn't in there either. Contemplating whether she should go check on them, or just go back to sleep she rubbed her eyes again in attempt to wake herself up a little more. Slowly she swung her legs over the edge of the bed and headed out of the room making her way down the short hallway. Not seeing anyone in the living room she headed for the hallway on the other side of the apartment. As she neared it she heard Adam's voice coming from Amelia's nursery and smiled to herself. She loved how quickly he was taken by that little girl and hoped that their relationship never changed; a little girl always needs her daddy. When she got to the doorway she quietly approached, not wanting to ruin the moment they were having in there. He wasn't talking loud enough for her to fully hear what he was saying, but she looked in and saw Amelia staring up intently at adam, her little fingers wrapped around his big one. Quietly leaving the doorway, she went back to the kitchen and grabbed her phone off the charging pad she had placed it on earlier and headed back to the doorway. Quietly she snapped a picture of the scene before her and clicked her phone off placing it in the pocket of the massive sweatpants she currently had on. After watching them for a few more minutes, she finally entered the doorway leaning up against it and crossing her arms.
"What are you two talking about in here?"
He looked over at Liz and smiled.
"Oh you know, life and things."
She chuckled a bit and smirked, "you're teaching our two day old daughter life lessons?"
"Hey, figured it's never too early to start."
She pushed herself off the doorframe and went over to them running her hand through Adam's hair and lightly brushing Amelia's toes. Adam closed his eyes, enjoying the contact and Amelia looked over at her mom.
"What's your daddy teaching you at this hour of the morning, huh? Hopefully not too much, he's a bad influence, he spends a lot of time in time outs."
She smirked as she saw his eyes open and look over at her.
"Hey, you love it when I take 'time outs'"
"Never said I didn't, hotshot. I'm just guessing that she won't like time outs in the fashion that she will get them in the future."
"Sure, already pegging our precious little girl to be a hoodlum."
"Oh whatever. She's part you part me, she will definitely earn herself some timeouts at some point in life."
"Can't really argue that one."
She smiled down at him and ran her hand down to the base of his neck. "Couldn't sleep?"
"Nah, I was just laying there when I heard her. Figured we'd get out of there so she didn't wake you up."
She smiled and leaned down pressing her lips to his.
"You're too sweet."
"I just wanna do as much as I can before playoffs starts. I feel guilty knowing I won't be here as much to help."
"I know, but don't worry. I've already had lots of baby help offered to me. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to get rid of Brit the entire time you guys are in playoffs."
He chuckled, his eyes starting to look sleepy. "I can take that. At least you won't be here by yourself."
"It's not like you're going to be gone forever."
"It's gonna feel like it. I don't want to miss anything." He looked down at Amelia, a sad look crossing his rugged features.
Liz looked between the two of them, taking in the moment before she spoke again.
"How about we all go back to bed. Looks like you're both about to pass out."
He sighed, "that sounds like a great idea."
The three of them left the nursery and headed back to their bedroom. When they crawled into bed, Liz pulled the covers over them and Adam rested Amelia on his chest. Liz snuggled over into Adam's side and placed her hand on her tiny girl's back. They both laid there, enjoying the closeness and warmth of their little family.
"I like this. It just feels… right." Liz looked up at Adam.
He looked down at her. "I know what you mean. I've got both my girls here and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
"Well don't you know how to make a couple of girls feel special Mr. McQuaid."
He chuckled softly. "It's my job, isn't it?"
"Yeah, I guess so," She smiled and leaned up giving him a soft kiss.
"Night babe."
"Night, hotshot."

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
