Persistance

After a few minutes of Liz 'thanking' Adam for her new jersey, they pulled apart Adam begrudgingly looking at the clock and sighing.
"I know it's early, but we need to head to the arena. I've gotta get ready for the game."
Obliging, she got up off the couch and started to grab her things, realizing she didn't want to lug them to the game she turned back to Adam who was throwing his bag over his shoulder and heading towards the door.
"Is it cool if I leave my books here and get them from you later?" She played that over in her head and started to blush turning around and picking her books up again, not wanting him to think it was an excuse for her to come back. "I mean, I don't want to take them to the game, that would just be annoying to lug a bunch of books around the whole time, but it's okay-"
He cut her off, coming up behind her and grabbing the books putting them back on the table, chuckling.
"First, you're rambling. Second, it's fine, don't worry about it."
She turned to him smiling softly. "Sorry, I do that sometimes."
Chuckling again, he grabbed her arm pulling her towards him, kissed her temple and headed towards the door again.
She stood there for a second taking in his action, she was slightly confused by all these simple gestures; calling her babe, kissing her head, but she wasn't complaining. Then she looked down at herself and remembered the jersey, he gave her his game worn jersey, caught up in her thoughts about what this all meant she heard him clear his throat. She jolted her eyes up to him and started heading for the open door he was standing in front of.
He furrowed his eyebrows as he watched her walk, "you okay?"
"What?" She looked up at him again, jumping when he spoke.
"You okay? You looked dazed over there."
"Oh yeah, I'm good." She smiled back at him, "I mean how could I not be, finally got something better to wear than that shit Seguin jersey." She smirked as she started towards the elevator.
Closing the door behind them he shook his head laughing to himself, heading towards the elevator he took in the sight of her number on his back.
"Well, I've gotta say you look pretty good with my number on your back."
Stepping into the elevator she looked down at the jersey and held up her arms watching the jersey becoming more like an oversized dress instead, and she chuckled.
"Why thank you sir, even though it is more of a dress than a jersey on me." She laughed and ruffled the bottom of the jersey that almost went past her knees.
He laughed at her playing around with the excess fabric pooling around her knees.
"I could give you a few ideas of what to do with it, but all would only cause more frustration since I have to focus on a game tonight before I can focus on other things." He said with a smirk.
She looked up at him putting her best innocent face on, "why whatever would you think that could take your focus off the game tonight?" She batted her eyelashes innocently trying to keep the smirk from spreading over her face.
Right before he was about to grab her, the doors opened to the elevator and she scurried out and down the hallway turning back to look at him.
"Ah ah ah, what did we talk about earlier? AFTER the game, mister." She smirked and kept heading down the hallway leading to the parking garage.

They arrived at the garden after a very loud car ride of Liz singing along to the radio, trying to amuse herself and Adam on the boring drive. When they walked into the arena, she realized that she didn't have Fred with her like she usually did for games and looked up at Adam.
"Sooo, where am I going to sit tonight? Usually I have Fred, I'm completely lost now." She chuckled.
"You can always sit up in the box with the other girls." He shrugged like it was no big deal.
Her eyes went wide and she was silent for a second. "As in the WAG box?"
"That's the one."
"Huh." She said with an eyebrow raised and a light smirk on her face.
"Why? Is that not okay?" He said with a look of slight confusion on his face.
"No, it's fine. But you're going to have to show me where to go."
Right as he was about to turn heading in the direction of the box, he saw Brittany, Milan's girlfriend, walking down the hall.
He yelled out to her. "Hey Brit!"
She turned, smiling at him, "Hey Quaider!" He looked at Liz standing beside him and smiled, she had met Liz a few times from seeing her around with Tyler and some of the other guys. Liz smiled back, recognizing her, but they had never really met before. Brittany was getting closer to the pair as she squinted her eyes lightly trying to remember if she had the girls name right. "Liz, right?"
Liz smiled to her, "Yep!"
Adam looked slightly confused as the girls smiled at each other. "You two know each other?"
Brittany chuckled, "She's been out with the guys a few times, Segs dragged her out with everyone a few times, poor girl." She chuckled again, Liz joining in remembering the times she had no choice but to cart around with the drunken rookie.
"Oh yeah, makes sense. Well could you take her up to the box with you? She's staying for the game."
Taking in the number on the arm of the jersey Liz was wearing, Brittany looked up at Adam with an inquisitive look in her eye.
"Sure, but doesn't Segs usually get her tickets?"
"Yeah, but she's with me tonight, Segs didn't force her into coming to this one."
The inquisitive look was replaced by a slight smirk.
"Alright then Quaider." She turned to Liz, "Follow me!"
As Liz started to walk away, Adam grabbed her arm turning her towards him. "Just a sec, Brit."
Liz turned to Adam, then looked back at Brittany. "I'll meet you at the end of the hall?"
She smirked at them and nodded, leaving them alone. Liz looked up at him questioningly before he pulled her a little closer.
"I know you have your whole motivation tactic, but I don't even get a good luck kiss?"
She smirked and put a hand on her hip pretending to think about it. "I dunno, kinda defeats the purpose though, doesn't it?"
Pulling her right up to him, he replied. "Or you could say that it's a preview of the reward."
She chuckled and took her hand off her hip, leaning up and kissing him deeply. They stayed like that for a minute before Liz pulled away, "You've got a game to win there hotshot, get going."
He smirked at her and leaned down quickly stealing another kiss before heading in the direction of the dressing room. She shook her head, smiling and headed down to the end of the hall where Brittany said she would meet her.
When she reached her at the end of the hall, Brittany was leaning against the wall and when she saw Liz coming into view she smirked and pushed herself off the wall starting to walk.
"So, Quaider huh? We all thought it was gonna come down to Segs, since you never gave Marchy the time of day." The blonde girl said chuckling.
Liz looked over at her confused, "We?"
"Oh yeah, all of us girls. We had a silent bet going too."
Liz chuckled, "So a bunch of girls I barely know had a bet that I was gonna sleep with Segs? Not gonna lie, that's slightly disturbing."
Brittany laughed as she turned up a flight of stairs heading to the box, "the guys love you, of course we had a bet on who you were going to end up with first! And let me tell you Adam was not in the top prospects."
"Why not?"
Brittany shrugged, "He's a sweetheart, but that's just it, he's a sweetheart. We definitely never thought he was going to be the one to sweep the infamous Liz off of her feet."
"Who says I've been swept?" Liz said playing with the hem of the jersey as she followed Brittany through the doors of the box.
"That's his jersey."
"Yeah, I usually wear one when I come to games. I don't see the connection."
"You wore Ty's jersey. And where did you get that jersey?"
She snorted slightly, "The gift shop."
Brittany smirked and crossed her arms, "and where did you get this jersey?"
"Adam gave it to me."
She turned to smirk at one of the other girls who came to stand beside her, "I rest my case."
The girl who came over to them looked at the number on her arm and then back to Brittany. "Adam, really?"
"I know right!"
"I don't know why you guys are making such a big deal of this," Liz laughed and nervously fiddled with the hem of the jersey again, "It's just a jersey."
The other girl smiled at her, "Game worn?"
Liz stared at the two smiley girls in front of her before answering slowly, "maybe."
"It's not just a jersey. I'm Katie by the way."
She stared at the girl, still playing with the hem of the jersey in her fingers, "Liz."
Katie chuckled, "Oh, I know. Nice to finally meet you Liz."
Liz was about to open her mouth to ask the girls a question when she noticed Krista approaching them from across the room, she smiled at her as she came in for a hug.
"You finally made your way up here! I was wondering when you were going to stop sitting with the boys."
Liz smiled, thankful for the familiar face. "Not here with any of the boys tonight, I was instructed to come sit up here."
Krista smiled and pulled her back, turning her to inspect the name and number on the back of the jersey, when she turned her back around the smile on her face had grew.
"Not you too." Liz groaned.
"Andrew told me McQuaid was smitten with you."
"Jesus," Liz sighed and rolled her eyes, "Damn Ference."
"I know, he's a pain in the ass right?" Krista chuckled at this and reached out, rubbing Liz's arm. "I'm glad to see you with him though, he's a great guy."
"I don't even know if I'm with him yet!"
She smiled and yanked lightly at the fabric on the side of the jersey that held the number.
"I think that says it all. But you know what, no more talking about gross hockey boys. Let's just go watch them smack around a little piece of plastic and drink some beer!"
Liz laughed, not only thankful for a familiar face around, but also thankful that she didn't have to talk about the fact she was wearing Adam's jersey anymore. This afternoon was only getting more confusing by the happening, so she gladly accepted the beer that Krista held out to her as she patted the spot beside her.

For the rest of the game she was able to avoid any more talk about the number on her back that had replaced the previous 19 she had always worn. As the game ended, she made a quick escape with Krista, both of them heading down to the dressing room to wait for the guys to come out. As she was talking to Krista, Tyler headed out of the dressing room and stopped when he saw her, looking confused.
"Hey Liz," he approached her questioningly, "Fred around here too?"
"Nope, didn't come to this game."
"Okay, so why are you-," he cut himself off noticing the number on the sleeve of her jersey wasn't his number 19.
"Quaider's jersey. You're here without Fred and in Quaiders jersey."
She looked at him like he had 5 heads, not wanting another person to bring up the jersey she avoided it by saying, "yeah, am I not allowed to have a life without Fred or you?"
"No, no you are.. just-" he stopped himself noticing the smile that had suddenly appeared on Liz's face and the presence he felt beside him.
"Ready to go?" Adam looked at Liz, to Tyler and back to Liz again.
"Yeah." She smiled and turned to Tyler giving him a quick hug. "See ya, Ty."
Tyler stood flabbergasted as he watched his teammate walk away with Liz. As he was watching them Brad came up beside him.
"Is that?"
"Yep."
"He got her in his jersey?"
"Apparently."
"But she's worn yours forever. I tried to give her mine a hundred times!"
"And you blame her? Who would want to wear your piece of shit number anyway March?"
"She wore yours!" The two shared a chuckle, "Damn, that guy's lucky."
Tyler looked over at him with an eyebrow raised, "You gonna be able to keep it in your pants there Marchy?"
"Shut up ass wipe, let's go!"
Brad shoved him as they started heading in the direction Adam and Liz had previously departed from.

Notes

Hola!
This one took a while, school, writers block, being sick, none of that helps you write!
But here it is! Kinda short, but sets up the stage for other things to start happening!
So, I hope you all enjoyed! Comments are LOVED, seriously. So before you go, write me one! :)

Comments

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
