I Trust you

I Wish You Weren't right

"It's in his DNA D-D-D-DNA
It's in his DNA
And he just takes my breath away
B-b-b-breath away
I feel it every day."

*April's POV*

It was the day prior to the start of the season as we found ourselves in Montreal getting ready to play the Canadians tomorrow night.

I cursed under my breath as I almost fell coming off the team bus but there was an arm there to catch me. I looked up and caught myself staring into his eyes before looking away and clearing my throat.

“Thanks.” I said to James as I removed my arm from his grip brushing past him towards the Hotel.

"What was that?" Someone asked coming up to walk beside me.

"What was what?" I asked Lups.

"Oh c'mon I saw that back there."

"I don't know what your talking about." I said trying to walk faster releived that he didn't try to catch up to me.

But he'd get another chance to bring it up inside the hotel. There was some sort of mix up with the rooms and I ended up sharing a suite with James.

Of course I thought to myself I trudged down the hall towards our suite waiting by the door for James who had the key.

"Hey sorry about the mix up." He apologized unlocking the door as I walked in.

"It's okay." I sighed dropping my bags on the floor and throwing myself on the couch as James laughed quietly walking into one of the bedrooms.

He came out a little while later in sweatpants and a Toronto Maple Leafs hoodie.

"I'm going to go out and get some lunch, you wanna join me?" He asked looking over at me.

"Sure." I said hauling myself off the couch and following him out the door.

***
Over lunch I'd gotten to learn alot more about James. He had two brothers Trevor and Brendon who both played hockey.

His dad had got him into hockey when he was younger and his family had a tradition where they would go to the local rink and play a fun game every year at christmas.

"So how are things going for you now?" I asked as we made our way back to the hotel.

"Things are good." He answered "I mean I've got hockey back so I won't be sitting on my ass all day." He said as we both laughed.

"How's Logan?" He asked.

"He's fine." I said, we had gotten into a fight before I had to leave and I didn't really want to talk about it.

"How about you?" I asked "Any lucky girls in your life?"

"I had a girlfriend back in Philly but things didn't really work out."

"You enjoying the single life?" I asked smiling.

"You could say that."

"Ever think of going back out there and maybe finding someone?"

"I have."

"Hows that working out for ya?"

"I've got my eye on someone." He replied looking over at me and again there was that lingering stare as I got lost in his eyes before I turned away and walked into the hotel ahead of him.

***
Later that night I was sitting in bed strumming my guitar when I heard a knock at my bedroom door.

I looked up to see James standing in my doorway.

"Hey." I said

"Hey." He repeated smiling.

"Did I wake you?" I asked

"No." He smiled shaking his head "It's nice."

"Thanks, do you play guitar?" I asked.

"No, but I wish I could." He said.

"I could teach you." I offered

"Really?" He asked his eyes twinkling.

"Really." I laughed patting the spot on the bed in front of me "I'll play something for for you."

I started strumming as James sat down in front of me.

So maybe it's another excuse for the way our thing's been going. Excuse me if I mean what I say, and I know I've been gone too long So don't believe everything, don't believe everything that you hear

'Cause baby I'm everything, baby I'm everything, when I'm near

I started singing along smiling at James who was watching me carefully as I played.

And all I can offer, is when I'm around Take me away and you will say That all you get is sound

So maybe this is how it's gotta be and I know our time ain't going Excuse me if I mean what I say yeah I know I've been gone too long

So don't believe everything, don't believe everything that you read

'Cause baby I'm everything, baby I'm everything that you need

And all I can offer is when I'm around Take me away and you will say That all you get is sound

You say, Well you amaze me with your songs, Well you amaze

And all I can offer is when I'm around Take me away and you will say that all you get is sound

And all I can offer is when I'm around Take me away and you will say that all you get is sound

And all I can offer is when I'm around Take me away and you will say that all you get is sound

"Are you saying that you can teach me to play like that?" James asked when I had finished.

"I'm gonna try." I smiled

"Now it's getting late and you have a game tommorow so go to bed." I said shooing him out of my room.

"I'll give you a proper lesson when we get back home." I said standing at the doorway.

"Thanks."

"No problem." I smiled.

"Goodnight April."

"Goodnight James." I said standing on my tiptoes giving him a quick peck on the cheek before closing the door.

***
It was game time the next day and everything was going good for the boys.

They were leading 1-0 over the Habs and Ben was solid in the net.

Then James got cross-checked in the ribs and pushed into the boards.

"April take him to the room and get him checked out." Coach ordered as James came limping off the ice.

I put his arm around my shoulder and led him to the locker room.

He winced as he sat in his staal already removing his jersey and padding underneath.

I forced myself to look away and focus on the job at hand as I put an ice pack to his ribs.

"You okay?" I asked tentativley sitting beside him.

"I think so." He said but he was clearly still in some discomfort.

"Lemme see." I said removing the ice pack and pressing my fingers lighty. "Is that where it hurts?" I asked as he grimaced.

"Yeah." He breathed out.

I started to remove my hand but he just put it back holding a tight grip that startled me as I looked back at him.

"It feels better than the ice pack." He smiled.

I didn't say anything just stared into his eyes getting lost and before I knew what was happening he was leaning in, and I wasn't doing anything to stop it.

Our lips were inches from touching when the noise of the boys coming into the locker room broke us apart. I removed my hand and put the ice pack in it's place.

Lups gave me a knowing look as he sat down in the staal next to me. He opened his mouth to say something but I beat him to it.

"Say anything and I'll kill you." I warned him through gritted teeth.

"I'm just saying." He whispered "You two aren't fooling anyone." He said looking between us as I just sighed trying to ignore him.

But he was right. I wish he wasn't, but he was. As I fell asleep that night I accepted the inevetable.

I was falling for my brothers teammate.

And I was falling fast.
