Cassie’s POV:
It’s been about 2 months since Adam and I had hung out that day. I can’t really tell if we’re dating or not. We’ve been out since then, but nothing like a real date. Just like two friends. I’d like to be his girlfriend, but I’m not sure how he feels about that. He likes me. That I’m sure of. But now I‘m thinking that I might just be imagining the whole thing
Adam’s POV:
I’ve had a lot of fun hanging out with Cassie. We get along so well. But I’m still nervous to ask her that one question. We haven’t been on a real date, unless you count that one snow day. We do hang out, but just as friends. And it’s getting close to the off season. Soon I’ll be heading up to PEI to see my parents and the rest of my family. With the long stretch of away games coming up, I should make my move before it’s too late.
Cassie’s POV:
I meet up with Adam after the game and he looks nervous. I’ve never seen him like that. Not even on game days. He always turns the nerves into adrenaline.
Adam’s POV:
I’m about to do the most reckless thing. But I’m not dumb and I wait until we are in the hallway alone.
“Cassie, will you go on a real date with me, just the two of us?” After I ask that, she looks shocked.
“Adam, I thought you would never ask. I would love to.”
“Great. We’ll go after the game on Saturday. I’ll text you to remind you.”
Saturday comes and once again, I’m nervous. Girls have never made me this nervous before. But I really like her. Luckily, we have to dress up for games, so I’m prepared. I’ve made reservations at this nice restaurant. I have a plan, though. I brought the hockey skate necklace and plan on asking Cassie to be my girlfriend, even if we both get in trouble.
Cassie’s POV:
After the game, I go into the bathroom to get ready for my date with Adam. I wore my date outfit to the game, just so I wouldn’t have to change afterwards. I’m wearing my dress from the first day I met Adam at the bar, the one with the blue swirls. I put on some blush, gold eye shadow, and some lip gloss. I throw on my black leather jacket and black heeled boots, and go to meet Adam in the player parking lot. We get into his car and head to wherever he chose. It’s a total surprise to me. He looks great though. I sneak a sideways glance and see he’s wearing a charcoal gray suit with a light blue shirt that matches his eyes. He decided to forgo the tie. His curls look a bit tamed back, like he used some gel. I just want to run my fingers through his hair. The curls are my favorite.
After about 15 minutes, we pull into the parking lot of a nice restaurant. I’ve heard really good reviews about it. We get out and head towards the front door. I can tell Adam’s nervous because he’s rubbing the back of his neck, one of his nervous twitches. I reach over and grab his free hand. I intertwine my fingers with his and squeeze. It seems to calm him down, so I keep our hands like that. We walk into the restaurant and he tells the hostess about our reservation. I wonder if anyone will recognize him. We’re in downtown Boston after a Bruins win. Most people would recognize any player in an instant. I can tell he put a lot of effort into this. It means that he wants this, us, to work.
He pulls out the chair and I sit down, then he moves to the other side and sits as well. The hostess hands us the menus and gets us glasses of water. She tells us our waitress will be right with us. We take a few minutes to look over the menu. There are a bunch of delicious sounding dishes, but one is calling my name: lemon pepper chicken with steamed vegetables and rice. After I decide what I’m getting, I set my menu down and wait for Adam to decide. The waitress comes over and introduces herself as Amanda. We both place our orders and she heads over to the next table.
Adam’s POV:
“This is nice Adam. I can tell you really put thought into it,” Cassie says, speaking up first.
“Thanks. I just wanted us to have a nice time. I tried to pick a place that wouldn’t have many fans. You know, that would interrupt us or take pictures or anything.”
“And I really appreciate that. This is nice, just us.”
“Yeah, I really like just hanging out with you.”
“Me too. So, how did you get into hockey?”
“My mom made me sign up. I was really shy as a kid and didn’t have many friends. She though hockey would be a way to open up.”
“You should thank your mom. She knew what she was doing. You’re really good.”
“Hahaha….thanks. She takes any opportunity to remind me of that. So, how did you get into photography?”
“I just really love taking pictures of anything. A few people told me they were really good and that I should enter them into contests. They won a few times, so I thought I could make a career out of it. I’m also doing journalism, so I don’t have to just rely on my photos. I want people to read my articles and see my photos.”
Cassie’s POV:
“You seem to really have a passion for it. Your eyes light up when you talk about it. Keep it up. It’s like me and hockey. If it makes you happy, do it.” We continue to talk until our food arrives. I went with my gut and got the chicken. Adam, having to stay on his diet plan, went with steak, steamed vegetables, and mashed potatoes.
After dinner, Adam pulls something out of his pocket. At first, I can’t tell what it is. Then I get a closer look. It’s a little jewelry box. He pushes it across the table and has me open it. It’s the little hockey skate charm necklace that I was looking at on our first ‘date’. I’m speechless.
“Cassie, I’ve liked you ever since I first saw you. I had tons of fun hanging out. I know we can get in trouble for this, but….will you be my girlfriend?”
“Oh Adam, of course I will,” I say walking over to him. I place a gentle kiss on his lips and it feels just right.
