Dangeruss & Tazer

Chapter 14

A few hours after the challenge had been accepted by both opponents, there was another crime scene call that came in. The radios that Russell and Jonathan had, alerted them that the dispatcher wanted them both to hurry to the scene at once.

They left the Greenhouse, instantly, turning the TV off. They hopped into Jonathan’s car and sped off to the scene. They didn’t want to waste any time and they were curious about what happened. Maybe Patrick Kane had been found? Or maybe it wasn’t good news. Perhaps Patrick had been found….dead….

They arrived to a house that looked familiar to Jonathan. It was a four story apartment complex, not far from his or Patrick’s place. It was a typical Chicago style bricking exterior, with a rounded picturesque window in the kitchen area. The scene was called in for the first floor.

The cop pair entered the building, walking to the first door in the short hallway. The door was already propped wide open and voices clammered inside. They stepped into the complex and immediately froze in their places. There was yellow tape everywhere and detectives and forensic specialists running about. There was one length of tape in-particular that stood out to them straight ahead, beside a set of stairs. As they neared the squared area that was marked off, they saw a single dead body on the floor. It was in a straight position, like the man had just fallen backward from a standing position.

Blood pooled from a wound on the head, right near the temple. The person’s eyes were shut, but from the look of the man, he hadn’t been dead long. And now that Jonathan thought about it, the man looked very familiar to him. He hoped it wasn’t true, but all signs indicated it was.

It was Marcus Kruger.

“Kruger, dammit! Where are we gonna find another centerman for the third line?” the hockey captain hissed, putting his hand on his hips. He glimpsed the shiny black hand gun that lay beside his hand at an angle.

“You know this man?” Russell asked, turning to his partner.

“I do. Marcus Kruger, a talented centerman and forward for the Chicago Blackhawks.”

“And he committed suicide?”

“Marcus was a happy guy, I don’t see why he would kill himself like this. He was always full of energy and eagerness. He loved to play on the ice with us. Why would he kill himself?”

“Well it seems like he had some dark secrets or demons dwelling in him. I hope he found the Lord.”

Jonathan looked at the football player. “You’re a Christian?”

“Yeah. Born and raised to worship the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!”

“Oh. I was catholic, but pro sports makes religion and everything a little difficult. I try to remain true to my faith, but sometimes it is difficult.”

“Tazer, you’re a great guy. I’m sure the Lord is pleased. But your buddy Marcus there, if he committed a sin...suicide…”

“That’s what seems to have happened. But maybe not. We don’t know.”

One of the detectives came up and nodded his head. “You are right at the second, “maybe not.” After doing some tests and analyzing the scene, we seem to have deduced that this was a murder, set up by someone to look like a suicide.”

“But who?”

“We are figuring that out.”

“Then why did you need Tazer and I? It seems like you know everything.”

“Well….follow me….”

The man led them into the kitchen, where more blood was and more yellow tape. On the refrigerator, was a note. It had a message on it in the same kind of lettering and style as a ransom note. It said:

“Dangeruss and Tazer,

Sorry for the mess we left, but Kruger wasn’t cooperating with us. We had to spill his blood, otherwise he would have made things too easy for you. But he did want to say that he was a traitor and he betrayed Patrick Kane. Thanks to him, we were able to pull off our little heist. Oh and speaking of the little blonde guy, he says “hello” and that he really wants his best friend to come for him.

Signed, The Blood Brothers.”

The detective left them standing in shock, staring at the message and then back to one another.

“Avery’s joshing us right? He’s fooling, trying to mess with our heads?”

“I don’t….think so….” Jonathan trailed off. His face was screwed up in thought. He wasn’t sure what to think. All he knew was that Sean Avery was a revengeful human being who had partnered with Michael Crabtree, an NFL player, and they had kidnapped Patrick Kane to teach him a lesson. But now there was more to it?

What had Marcus done? How had he helped the two villains out? And what exactly had he told them? What did they know about his poor friend?

“So what do you think he did?”

“I don’t know. I’m just really worried about what Coach is gonna say about this!”

“I’m sure you guys can find another centre. Borrow one from Boston, I heard they breed centres!”

“Yeah….” Jonathan looked to the ground briefly. Then he snapped his head back up and pushed his feelings to the side. “I wonder if he--”

“Hey Tazer, look who I found!” a familiar voice spoke, behind the pair, interrupting.

They whipped around and spotted Patrick Sharp, who was standing with a large African American man, Michael Robinson or as most knew him as Mike Rob, owner and creator of the Real Rob Report, a behind the scenes show of the Seattle Seahawks and what occurred in the NFL (and mainly in the locker room). He was bald, but had a friendly presence and look about him and his face. He held a video camera in his hand and appeared to be filming them. The two walked into the kitchen, looking around.

“Russell Wilson sighting!” the man exclaimed.

Russell looked at him. He wasn’t amused for once with the camera lens on him. “Mike, turn that thing off!” He gave a stern look to the lens and then at his Seattle teammate, holding the camera.

Patrick also had his camera on and was filming the scene. “Hey To-ez, say hi to Blackhawks fans and Blackhawks TV!”

“Sharpy, quit it!” Jonathan snapped, trying his best to conceal his smile, as he lunged forward and swiped at the camera, missing.

Patrick instead spun the camera around in his hands and put the lens in the direction of where his face was. “Well, as you can see Blackhawks fans, apparently our captain is too busy to say hi and be friendly right now. He hasn’t changed a bit, has he?”

“And neither have you! Haha, now shut that thing off.” The Blackhawk leader lunged and swiped again, missing for the second time.

“You too, Mike!” Russell scolded.

Both Patrick and Mike shared a look and hit their “stop recording” buttons in unison.

Notes

Sorry it has been forever since I posted an update for this one, but I've been tossing around the idea of whether or not there should be more that happened in order for the Blood Brothers to have successfully captured Kaner. I think it makes sense to have an inside man...a traitor, someone who would betray Kaner and help to ease the kidnapping.
Marcus' role will be explaining in the next chapter, which I hope to get up here next! :)
I hope this works and fits in.
Oh and I hope you enjoy the introduction of the two media hounds! :)))) Haha they are perfect matches!!
