I Met A Girl

“I met a girl
She made me smile, she made me wait
She crossed the street, she crossed my heart
She fixed her dress, she bit her lip, she let me up
I met a girl with crazy shoes and baby blues
The way she moves is changing my whole world
I met a girl”
I Met A Girl by William Michael Morgan

Cameron’s POV

James pulled into the player’s parking lot at the arena and held the door open while I climbed out.

“What a gentleman.”

“I try.”

I smiled back at him. Again, he held the door open leading me into a long tunnel with about a hundred doors.

“OK, because I have to get in the locker room, I’m gunna turn you over too Jack here and he’s gunna show you to your seat. OK?”

“Yeah, sure. Good Luck.”

“Thanks.”

I looked up at the tall man who wore a smile.

“Ready?”

“Yeah”

He walked off and I struggled to keep up. I wasn’t shorty by any means but this man was scarily tall. He was probably like 7 feet. Jack walked me to the end of the tunnel which led me to a set of elevators that took us up to the arena. We exited the elevator and were immediately faced with the energy(no pun intended) and excitement of the arena. You could here the music blaring from the middle of the arena as we turned down an aisle. Jack then led me down the stairs to my seat which was directly behind the penalty box. I smiled and thanked Jack as I took my seat.

James’ POV

I waltzed into the locker room with a stupid grin on my face that the entire team noticed.

“What’s got you so smiley, Nealer.” Kunitz acknowledged.

“Yeah. Lazy never smiles.” Geno remarked with a smirk.

“Shut up, Geno. I smile.” I shot back.

“What is it. A girl?” The entire team laughed at Staal’s remark.

“Neal? A girl? Please.” Crosby said.

“And what if it is.” I said. The entire team started laughing again until they realized I was serious.

“Seriously man? Good for you.” Sidney remarked.

“Thanks.”

“Ok guys, ready to go?” Dan came in.

A series of ‘YEAHS’ chorused around the room.

“Ok. Let’s go warm up then.”

We were playing the Vancouver Canucks in the first regular season game of the year. We skated out onto the ice ready to get our game faces on. We lazily shot around until I went to stretch at center ice.

“Which one?” Geno came over and asked.

“That one.” I pointed over at the brunette that’s been occupying my head space for the last couple days. She was one of many girls that came wearing a Neal jersey but the only one that was wearing MY jersey.

I waved at her as she looked up at me and saw her wave back.

“Oh. Pretty. She girlfriend?” He asked.

“No. Just my friend right now.”

“Oh. So she on market?”

I shoved Geno to the side and went back to aimlessly shooting pucks.

Cameron’ s POV

‘He waved at me!’ I felt like an obsessive fan girl but then again I was. I’d been watching the Penguins since I was like ten and now I know one. That’s awesome. But I wasn’t gunna treat him any differently. Just because he’s a professional athlete doesn’t mean I’m not gunna put my wall up around him.

It was such an exciting game! The Penguins won 4-3 in a shootout. I bent down to gather my things when I heard a tap on the glass and gasps around me. I looked up at James who held a finger up, signaling me to wait for him to come out. I sighed and collapsed back into my seat.

The arena was completely empty by the time I heard heavy steps on the stairs behind me.

“Final- your not James,” I spoke.

“No.” he replied with a thick Russian accent, “I, Evgeni.”

“I know who you are, Evgeni, I was just expecting James.” I replied.

“He send me. He in shower.”

“O..k..” I replied.

I followed him back up the stairs and to the elevator me and Jack had come out of mere hours ago.

“Name?” Evgeni asked.

“Oh. How stupid of me. Cameron.” I said.

“Pretty name. How you meet Lazy?”

“He lives in my building and I’m doing an article on him about the “normal” life of an NHL superstar.” I replied, boasting about my job.

“Why you not write about Sid?”

I scoffed. “He’s a stuck up, full of himself, egotistical jerk.”

“And Lazy not?”

“You make an excellent point. But Neal has the looks to pull it off.”

“Good point.” We both laughed.

The elevator dinged signaling we were at the end of our “adventure”. Evgeni led me down the hall, to the right, and through a door that led me to the family room. I was soon met with questioning and judging glances mixed with some glares. I desperately wished I could crawl into an hole and hide. I hoped James got here soon.
