Wake Me Up

Chapter 9

The next day went by in a daze.

Jackie had to wake up early and practice with her team. She thought they did fairly well, but still could've been better. Maria had made some nice saves, but also let in some easy ones. Danica wouldn't listen to a thing Jackie had to say. Which was fine by Jackie since she didn't want to have to talk to her.

By the time it was time to go to the Hawk's game, Jackie was just in the mood to take a nap.

"What do you wear to a game?" Hannah asked, as primped herself. Jackie groaned. Did she seriously just ask that?
"You wear sweaters, dumbass." Hannah's face lit up.
"OH! Really? great! I have A TON of sweaters to choose from! I think I should wear my black one since black is a slimming color. . ." Jackie stared at Hannah confused.
"What are you talking about? That's not what I meant by wearing a sweater."
"Then what did you mean?" Jackie motioned for Hannah to follow her.
"This is what i meant," Jackie said, showing Hannah the countless Blackhawk sweaters she owned. Hannah crinkled her brow.
"Those are called jerseys not sweaters." Jackie wanted to strangle her.
"Jersey, is the name of what football players wear. Sweater is the name of what hockey players wear. They used to call them sweaters back then. But then the name jersey sorta stuck more." Hannah rolled her eyes.
"What's the big deal?"
"The big deal is, if your going to be dating a hockey superstar, you might wanna know a little history here and there," she said as she pursed her lips, trying to find the right one to wear. She had tons to choose from. She had three home sweaters, a Patrick Kane, a Jonathan Toews and Brent Seabrook. She also had four away sweaters, Andrew Shaw, Brandon Saad, Corey Crawford and Patrick Sharp.
"Which one can I wear?" Hannah asked. Jackie turned on her heel to face Hannah.
"None, these are mine."

Hannah's jaw dropped.
"Jackie! What the fuck! I need to show that I appreciate this team and whatever else! Let me just wear it one time!" she pleaded, as she tried to grab a sweater. JAckie was to strong for her and held her back.
"No is no." Hannah crossed her arms and did a devious smile.
"You don't wanna share? Fine, then you won't come to the game with me."
"You wouldn't."
"I would."
They stood there, glaring at each other until finally Jackie caved in.
"Fine, you can wear the Toews one," she said, carefully grabbing the sweater off its hanger.
"I knew you would come around."

The game was intense. It was in the third period and the score was tied. The seats were amazing. Jackie watched as the players skated their hardest, making moves that she could only dream of doing.
"Did you see that pass?" she exclaimed, pushing Hannah. Hannah sighed.
"Yeah, and I also saw the hundred other passes that they did too." Jackie sat up straighter in her chair, showing off the number 88 to everyone behind her. They were right behind the Hawk's bench. Jackie could practically make out every detail of each player.
She saw her "favorite player" skate back to the bench, his electric blue eyes making contact with her brown ones. She felt the heat rush to her cheeks. Patrick gave her his famous smirk as he sat down on the bench.
She should be totally fan girling right now, shouldn't she? But yet, she wasn't. She secretly wished that that had been Jonathan who gave her that look. As the game went into ten minutes left, the players made a quick change, causing Jonathan to come back to the bench. He looked up into the spot where Hannah and Jackie were, trying to catch Hannah's eye, but to no avail. Hannah was to busy checking her phone. Jackie did a small wave to him, causing her brown hair to wave back and forth. Jonathan waved back. Jackie's stomach did a small victory lap. The girl next to Jackie looked at her in shock.
"Did Jonathan Toews, just wave at you?" she asked, her eyes wide. Jackie bit her lip, trying not to smile.
"Yeah, yeah he did."

Five minutes left in the game.

Three minutes left in the game.

One minute left in the game.

The lineup that was out on the ice was Sharp, Keith, Toews, Kane and Hossa.
The Hawk's had possession. The United Center's atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and adrenaline.
"Let's Go Hawks!" they chanted, Jackie being the one who started it. She was now standing up, like the rest of the United Center. She watched as Kane made a backhand pass to Keith who wrist shot it but the Hurricane's goalie stopped it. She watched as Sharp got the rebound and passed it back out to Toews.

Ten seconds left.
"COME ON JONATHAN!" Jackie shouted, doubting her voice could be heard about the crowd. All of a sudden, Jonathan was off, he deked his way past everyone, finally getting close enough to do a dribble shot on the left pad of the goalie.
"He shoots and HE SCORES! JONATHAN TOEWS SCORES WITH THREE SECONDS LEFT IN THE THIRD PERIOD!" Jackie exclaimed. The goal horn buzzed and the crowd erupted into cheers. Over the speakers Chelsea Dagger began to play. Jackie danced along with everyone else.
"What happened?" Hannah asked, confused. Jackie paid no attention to her. She watched as Jonathan was mobbed by his teammates. The defeated look had spread across the Hurricane's players' faces.
They played the final three seconds with ease. With the final horn blew, the Hawk's had won. Jackie shouted until her voice was hoarse. As the team skated back to the bench, waiting for the player of the game, Jonathan glanced up again, trying to catch Hannah's eye. She still wasn't looking.
As Jonathan's name was announced as the number one player of the game Hannah finally looked up.
"That's my guy!" she cried. Jackie wanted to give her a swift kick to the gut.

After the game was over, Jackie and Hannah were the only ones left in the arena. They were waiting for Jonathan to come out of the locker room. Jackie was so excited. She would finally get to meet some of the players. The first one out was Corey. He gave her a wink as he hulled his hockey bag onto his shoulders. Jackie practically feinted. After what seemed like forever, Jonathan finally came out of the locker room, with Patrick Kane by his side.
"So this is the girl you've been talking all about," Patrick said walking over to Jackie and giving her a side hug, as if they were old friends.
"She's a lot hotter then I would've guessed," he said, winking. Jackie blushed.
"I'm not his girlfriend, she is," she said shyly, as she pointed to Hannah. Hannah did a little wave at Patrick. He looked from Jonathan and then to Hannah, and then back to Jackie.
"Oh. . .so that means that your free?" he asked, his kind blue eyes smiling.
"Y-yes," she stammered. Patrick grinned, showing off his lop sided grin.
"Perfect." Jackie managed a smile as Patrick began to type his number into her phone. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched as Jonathan talked to Hannah.
"He can't stop obsessing over her," Patrick commented, noticing Jackie looking at them.
"Really?" she asked as her heart broke into a million pieces.
"Yeah, but see when I first saw you two, I thought you were the girl, I mean I saw you sitting up there cheering on the team and then I saw your friend well. . .texting," he said, making a face.
"I'm glad he's got her, so that I can take you for myself," Patrick said shyly. A few months ago, this would've made Jackie over the moon. She probably would've kissed him right then and there. But it was different. She didn't want Patrick. She wanted Jonathan. Did this make her selfish? I mean she did have a fucking hockey superstar, crushing on her.

Just then Jonathan's face lit up.
"Hey I know you! I ran into you at a restaurant!" he exclaimed, walking over to Jackie. Jackie took a step back, intimidated by his height.
"Um, you do?" she asked, lying.
"Yeah! You were the girl who didn't like me," he said in his deep voice.
"Er, it's not that I don't like you," Jackie began but then Hannah cut in.
"She so doesn't like you! She likes Patrick though, that's the only guy she can think of," Hannah said smugly, giving Jackie the thumbs up. Patrick wiggled his eyebrows, playfully as Jonathan did a scowl. Was he unhappy because she didn't like him?
"Oh is that so?" Patrick asked.
"Well uh. . .you could say. . ." Jackie mumbled.
"For sure! She even mutters about you in her sleep!" Hannah said. Jackie wanted to die.
"Well you know, your just so damn hot," Jackie said, trying to make it so she wasn't that obsessed.
Patrick did a throaty laugh.
"Well I'm just going to have to hear that one day," he said sexily. Hannah laughed along with Jackie's fake laugh.
"We should all totally go on a double date tomorrow!"
"I'm in, we got practice in the morning but we can make it," Patrick said, looking at Jonathan for the ok.
"I'm cool with that, what about you Jackie?" Jonathan asked. Just hearing him say her name made her swoon.
"I can't, I have hockey practice tomorrow at 8." Patrick's face lit up.
"You play hockey? Where have you been all my life?" he wondered aloud, as he slung his arm around her shoulders. Jackie couldn't help but notice Jonathan's face. She wondered if he was thinking the same exact thing as Patrick.
"Well maybe some other time. . ." Jackie said but Patrick waved it off.
'Nonsense, I'll just come to your practice! We can show up a little late to the dinner." Hannah beamed.
"Then it's a date!" Jackie did a fake smile.
Yay.

aww.. So happy her and her team whipped it out in the championship and that someone was there to stop the a holes at the bar
really great. Loved that she checked Pat. I honestly would love a story where they didn't necessarily play him off as an ass once he gets in a relationship. Everyone makes bad decisions where he is in his life his is just more publicized. Of course I have never met him or would actually know him more than face value so he always could be an A hole.. who knows...

Anyway great story keep it up
Please post soon :) I'm having withdrawal symptoms from not reading your stuff.
