The Hockey Boys & Me
Summary
If you grow up playing hockey, you know what the first day of the season is like. You step on the ice after a long break. Sometimes the break had been too long. Other times it has been refreshing. The feeling you get from gliding across the slick surface is unlike any other. With the stick in your hand and a freshly cleaned jersey on, you feel unstoppable.
My family has revolved around hockey since before I was born. Two weeks after my birth, I went to an arena for the first time. My father was the head coach for the local AHL team, the Adirondack Phantoms. My older brother Gavin started playing when he was three, and I started taking private lessons when I was five. Now at twenty my life still revolves around hockey, sometimes more so than before. But hey, I love it. I love hockey, and hockey is what I love to do.
