Battle For the Ice: The Great NHL War

Battle #4: Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews vs Sean Avery and Matt Cooke

Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews shared a look with one another. They halted before the United Center’s entrance. It was the first time they were hesitant about going into their own arena. Jonathan had on a short sleeve dark blue shirt with a pair of dark blue jeans. Patrick was wearing a simple, basic outfit: a long sleeve light blue dress shirt with royal blue jeans. He wore a golden chain necklace (it was his good luck charm).

“Ready for this?” Jonathan asked without taking his eyes off the haunting-looking hockey arena before them. After a few seconds he finally looked at the blond, eager beside him.

“Jonny, I was born ready,” Patrick remarked with a clever grin. He raised his hands up and produced a pink glow from them. “I got your back.”

“And I got yours,” the brunette Blackhawk agreed, raising up his hands. “You wanna help me to activate my shield?”

“Sure!” Patrick exclaimed, distinguishing the pink glow and reaching over to Jonathan’s left arm, where a metal bracelet was clamped in place. He pushed down on a blue button and then drew back as blue energy shot out of Jonathan’s hand and morphed into his energy shield.

“Thanks buddy,” Jonathan said and threw his right hand out shooting blue balls at the ground. Then he deactivated the shield and turned to Patrick. “Alright, I’m ready now.”

Patrick smiled. “Let’s go kick that bastard’s ass! Teach him not to mess with Blackhawks or with the Hockey Heroes!”

“You said it, Peeks!”

With that, they stormed into the arena. The door slammed behind them and locked closed. They ignored the nagging feeling in them and headed toward the ice rink. Jonathan grabbed Patrick’s hand in his own and pulled him close. The two stepped through one of the fun tunnels and they stood gazing across at the ice before them. It was empty and unused, but glistening under the arena lighting.

Patrick and Jonathan nodded and looked around the arena, ready for any surprises. And sure enough, there was one. And they weren’t ready for it. A sudden force field slammed into them and sent them flying backward onto the ice. They landed with a thud right at the blue line. The two Blackhawks scrambled to their feet, shocked, but energized.

“Who’s there?” Patrick asked.

“Show yourself!” Jonathan snarled, his finger hovering over his activation button.

Instead of a clear response, only wicked cackling echoed around them. Then there was a sudden eerie silence.

“Kaner, get behind me!” the Canadian snapped as he jammed his finger down on the button and drew up his energy shield.

Patrick scampered behind him as a barrage of fireballs launched at them. He dodged the streams of fire and made it to safety behind his friend. Jonathan launched his own blue energy balls in the direction of the fire ones, while he held his ground and fed the shield.

Suddenly all of the fireballs and blue energy balls stopped. Jonathan remained on his guard and signaled Patrick to remain behind him. Then a voice boomed toward them, echoing around the arena. “So, I get the Blackhawk lovers, eh? I get the homosexual captain and his...pet.”

“Hey!” Patrick snapped. “I’m no one’s pet!”

“Oh, I’m sorry, I meant to say boy toy.”

“I’m not that either!”

“And I’m not a homosexual! Come on and show yourself Avery, I know it is you!” Jonathan added on. "I'd recognize that voice anywhere!"

“Oh please, you two are obviously blowing each other. Like right now, I could completely destroy Jonathan and I’m sure little blondie there would be in tears, crying for his precious Jonny to come back. Oh so sad, and then he’d totally kiss him. He’d make out with him, adding in a little tongue...you know--”

“So what if I’m gay for Tazer,” Patrick remarked, raising his head up high and stepping to the side of Jonathan, who lowered his shield with the wave of his hand and then the press of his button.

“And so what if I’m gay for Kaner. At least I care about my teammate, Avery!” Jonathan snorted, putting his hands on his hips.

“Well, for one, it's wrong and two, you won’t last together!” Avery’s response came.

“I’ll never hurt Jonny by breaking his heart!”

“Yeah, I’d never hurt Kaner by breaking his!”

“We’ll see about that…” Avery began tossing out fireballs once more.

Jonathan raised his shield up. Then he felt something ram into the side of him and send him flying to the side. He skidded on the ice and when he looked up, he saw Patrick was unharmed and hovering in the air. He jumped to his feet and shot off a big ball of blue energy. It lit up a figure there and the captain of the Blackhawks and the Hockey Heroes cursed to himself.

“Invisibility!” He sent another ball and then power fed his energy shield. “KANER, MAKE ME ANGRY, I NEED TO USE MY TELEKINESIS!” (Remember Jonny has a "Fury Telekinesis")

“Are you serious Jonny?”

“As serious as my nickname! Go!”

“I’m breaking up with you, Avery was right it won’t work out! Also, I hate Canadians...and, uh, oh, I told Sharpie to put the powerade under your helmet!” Patrick exclaimed.

Jonathan could feel his heart pumping fast and then it hit him. He raised his right hand and waved it at the glowing figure, who was halted in place with Jonathan’s constant blue energy balls. The invisibility appeared to fall off and a man in a black ninja jumpsuit stood there, exposed. Patrick dove at him and tackled him. The man didn’t wear a mask, but he was easily recognizable now.

“Matt Cooke,” Patrick snarled, as he pinned the villain to the ice.

Soon another man with red eyes and a villainous-looking crew cut appeared in the zamboni entrance. He stepped onto the ice. He wore a red armor-padded top with orange pants and red boots with a black line up the center of them. He had red armored gloves, which were blazing with a kindled and controlled fire.

Jonathan spotted him raising his hands at Patrick, who was sitting on Cooke and looking extremely proud of himself. “Kaner!” he gasped. “KANER, LOOK OUT!” The red-eyed man shot fire out of his hands at Patrick, but Jonathan raced over, closer to where Avery was at one end of the rink and quickly counteracted with blue energy. “Crap it’s Avery!” he spat through gritted teeth, as their energies met.

Patrick swung his head around to look at Jonathan and Avery locked together. He was distracted and Cooke seized the opportunity to shove him off. The blond fell to the ice on his hands and knees, but quickly scrambled to his feet, facing Cooke. The villain began to use some kind of Cibumkinesis (Food Manipulation) and shoot cookies from his hands at Patrick. Like, actually chocolate chip cookies.

Patrick swiftly dodged them and rose into the air. “Is that really all you can do? Be invisible and shoot chocolate chip cookies at people?”

Cooke grinned and sent a massive cookie at Patrick, who was busy chuckling. It hit him and sent him tumbling backward in the air. He slammed into the boards and lost his ability of flight, crashing to the ground. He shook his head from the shock as Cooke stepped toward him. He began pelting the blond with cookie bullets. Patrick tried to fend them off, but he was soon covered in the cookies and was rapidly becoming buried in them. He gasped and tried to fight his way out, but he found that he couldn’t move.

At all.

Great.

Meanwhile, Jonathan narrowed his eyes at his opponent now recognizing him as Sean Avery, the leader of the Hockey Villains and the one who had bested him earlier. But the Blackhawk was determined not to lose again. He pumped his fury and shot one hand out to the side. He remained focused on the villain, but he drew up a chair from the bench area (its the goalie stool) and flung it toward the villain with a flick of his arm.

Avery ducked to the side, losing a little bit of his focus. The chair slammed against the boards behind him. Jonathan took the opportunity to power his blue energy, which ate away at the red and orange, almost consuming it. But then Avery surprised Jonathan by suddenly changing the fire energy to the black lightning. It zoomed through Jonathan’s blue energy and zapped him, sending him stumbling backward, onto the ice.

“Screw you Avery!” Jonathan spat.

Avery powered up the lightning again, but this time, Jonathan was ready for it and he generated his energy shield. The lightning was absorbed harmlessly. Jonathan racked his brain though, he had to figure out a way to defeat Avery. He closed his eyes in concentration and rose into the air.

Then he deactivated the energy shield and snapped his eyes open. Sure enough, Avery fell for his vulnerability and shot black lightning at him. This time though, Jonathan sprang higher into the air and aimed at Avery with his blue energy, mustering everything he had and was able to hit the villain in the shoulder with it, rendering him helpless. On top of it, Jonathan seized control of the chair once more with his telekinesis powers and knocked Avery over the head with it.

It was enough, so that Jonathan could finally relax and turn to Patrick, who was struggling into the cookie-cano. Jonathan sighed and rolled his eyes, muttering, “Peeks…” He zoomed down to the ice and slammed into Cooke, who crashed into the boards and was instantly knocked unconscious from the unexpected contact. The hero turned to his friend, dropped onto the ice and began to assist him.

“Really Kaner, will you ever be able to fend for yourself?”

“These aren’t normal cookies, Jonny!” Patrick complained.

“Okay…” Jonathan broke one of them and revealed a metallic interior. He broke another one and it was made of steel. “Crap, Kaner, you’re right. Oh, I’m sorry man.”

“Here I thought that a guy whose powers were shooting people with cookies was gonna be super easy to defeat!”

Jonathan dug Patrick out, until he was able to finally fly out, unharmed. “You okay?”

“Yeah, how does he know about the metal and steel weakness I have? Only you and the heroes know. I haven’t told anyone else!”

“Just stay with me, Avery should come back alive any minute and I might need your help.”

“Alright.”

Jonathan and Patrick turned to see Avery - sure enough - resurrecting from unconsciousness. He was furious as he spotted the two Blackhawks. At once he let out a loud roar and was outlined with a fire-light. He threw his hands out and launched a massive fireball at them. The two dove to either side and sprang off the ice, into the air.

“Jonny--?”

Jonathan half looked at Patrick, while Avery spun around and created some kind of spinning fire streamer vortex thing. “Distract him and I’ll--!” The brunette was cut off by Avery finally halting in his spinning and sending the fire out right at him.

“JONNY!” Patrick screamed as he watched the fire hit his friend like a whip and send him flying backward right into the Jumbotron.

Jonathan dropped to the ice and hit it with a sickening crunch. He started to get up, when Avery blasted him with his black lightning once more. It made the poor hero scream in agony, while his best friend watched in horror. Patrick had to do something and stop Avery.

“Look at me Peekaboo,” Avery scoffed. “I’m roasting a Blackhawk!”

Patrick narrowed his eyes, still hovering in the air. He had one card up his sleeve. He wasn’t sure if Avery had the ultimate power or was immune to it but it was worth a shot. He focused on Avery and cleared his mind. Then using his Advanced Telepathy, he attempted to get inside Avery’s head.

Stop hurting my friend.

What the--get the hell out of my head!

Not until you stop zapping Jonny.

And why would I do that?

Because if you don’t, I’ll start singing off key inside of your head and force you to listen to it on a loop. And the song will be, “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars or maybe “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift...some annoying song.

I hate you. Avery’s lightning stopped and he turned to Patrick and shook his head.

Patrick kept focus on him. You’re going to leave here. And take that miserable excuse of a goon with you. Capiche?

Bite me.

Get out! Go!

Patrick clenched his fist and hardened his glare. Avery stormed across the ice and grabbed Cooke and headed to the exit.

“This isn’t over, Kanerboo!” Avery snarled as he paused at the zamboni tunnel.

“You keep telling yourself that Avery, but the way I see it, you just got served a helping of Showtime baby!”

Avery dropped Cooke though and spun to face him, throwing his hands up and shooting something at Patrick. But before it could reach him, it was intercepted and stopped by blue energy.

Patrick snapped his head to the side to see Jonathan standing up, before he immediately fell over onto his side. The blond gasped but turned back to Avery and focused on him. Get Avery out and then save Jonny! he thought to himself.

He focused on Avery, before the villain could blast at him again and telepathically ordered, GO! LEAVE US ALONE!

Avery grabbed Cooke and dragged him off. They vanished down the tunnel. Patrick remained staring at the tunnel, to make sure that they did leave, before he finally returned to the ice and dashed over to where Jonathan was lying. He dropped down to him and put his hands on his friend’s body. He closed his eyes and focused all of his energy toward his hands and they glowed pink.

Come on, Jonny. Wake up, Patrick thought.

After some effort and concentration, Jonathan awakened and sat up. The burns that had seared his skin were gone and he was back to full health. Patrick blinked his eyes open and smiled. Jonathan smiled back.

“Good job Kaner.”

Patrick threw his arms around him, distinguishing the pink glow from them. Jonathan wrapped one of his arms around the blond too and patted him.

“Thanks for saving me from the metallic cookies.”

“No, thank you for saving me from Avery’s power surge.”

They remained sitting there on the ice, hugging one another. After a few more moments, Patrick sat back and got to his feet with Jonathan hand-in-hand with him. They shared another hug and then headed toward the benches to the side.

As soon as Jonathan’s hand touched the door to the bench though, a voice calling out his name halted him. He turned around. It wasn’t an evil or villainous one...more familiar to them both. It came from the direction of the zamboni entrance. Patrick spun around and before long they saw a man carrying another man emerge from the depths.

“Jamie!” Jonathan gasped.

Jamie stumbled onto the ice. “Tyler, he’s…”

Patrick darted across the ice and helped the Dallas Star out. Jonathan opened the bench and they all stepped off the ice. Jamie and Patrick carefully laid Tyler on the bench. He’d fallen unconscious now and he was paler.

“What happened?” Jonathan asked.

Patrick rubbed his hands together and placed them over Tyler’s heart. He focused and produced the pink glow from his hands. He channeled the energy and allowed it to soak into Tyler’s body.

Jamie hung his head, “It’s my fault. He got wrapped up in Zenon’s fire chain too much and then he was slammed into the building. He’s taken quite the beating today man.”

Jonathan nodded, looking at Patrick and Tyler. After a few moments, Tyler glowed a hot pink color, before it faded into a nice lavender color. The burn marks from the chains gradually faded away on his skin, which returned to a normal healthy tone and then Tyler blinked awake. Patrick lifted his hands away and cut off the pink energy. He smiled at Tyler.

“Thanks buddy,” Tyler whispered, smiling back at the blond. He sat up and looked at Jamie, wearing the same smile.

“You’re welcome. I got to heal two people in one day, that’s a record right Jonny?” Patrick remarked, folding his arms over his chest.

Jonathan laughed, “Yeah, make it three though. Two people, three cases!”

“Yeah, I had to save you twice, Jonny. Don’t make that a habit. I don’t mind it but still, you gotta learn to beat Avery on your own.”

“Don’t be cute Kaner.”

“That’s a little hard, don’t ya think Jonny,” Patrick laughed. “Look at me, you know you love it!”

Jonathan stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Patrick’s shoulders, smirking at him. “You’re right. You’re my cute little blond healer!” He began to trail kisses down Patrick’s neck, making him chuckle.

“Jonny, stop. Jonny. Am I gonna have to--?”

Jonathan stopped and just looked at him with hard, sparking chocolate eyes. “What… ....telepathically tell me?”

Patrick pressed his lips to Jonathan’s. “Yeah.”

Jamie sat down with Tyler. “You’re my handsome brunette healer.” He batted his eyelashes flirtatiously at his friend. Tyler rolled his eyes and pushed Jamie in the shoulder, laughing. Jamie wobbled dramatically and then fell backward, off the bench, grabbing Tyler and pulling him off with him.

“You’re a ham and cheese sandwich Jamie Benn,” Tyler chuckled.

Jamie Randolph Benn.... XD
Kazer and Bacon!! <3 <3 <3 <3
I wasn't sure which Kaner fight cover to use, I went with the other one obviously, but let me know if you like this one better? I can always switch it! :) (And Kaner's pink because of his healing powers, not cause he's feminine or anything...)

Alright, who's next????
And I'm going to say not either of the archers though. No Val and Zady yet, because I don't wanna have too many duets here. XP
Here's a visual of Jonny vs Avery:
