Battle For the Ice: The Great NHL War

Battle #6: Torey Krug vs Ryan Kesler

“I’ll just have to stop you then!”

Ryan Kesler knew it was the wrong thing to say even as the words left Torey Krug’s mouth. His hands closed around empty air as Torey ducked around him to stand on the other side, with his weather hammer at ready.

Torey was wearing a black armored outfit with a gold cape, black boots, black pants and fingerless gloves. Kesler, on the other hand, was wearing a black and gold jumpsuit with padded faux armor, detachable black cape and intricately detailed gold armored arm gloves and boots. In his hands he had his staff, which resembled that of the villain Loki from Thor and the Avengers.

"No. Torey! Torey--!" Kesler called as the man punched the weapon up into the air, whipping up a storm over Madison Street in Chicago. "What are you doing?"

Torey grinned back at Kesler, eyes bright with the possibility of adventure. "I don’t have to answer you! Why would I? Now hold still, this’ll only hurt…a lot!" he yelled back over the howling wind.

“Guess you’re right!” Kesler spun his staff in his hand. He could see it, no thought now, only action. Kesler found himself lunging forward, grabbing Torey by the wrist. But he was too late, too light, too weak. Catching each other as they fell, Torey hit the ground below them with a glancing blow, driving the breath from him.

Tumbling, Kesler smacked into one of the trees to the side of the road, pain exploding from his skull, and then they were airborne again, flung apart from each other. Torey had his hammer out at ready and Kesler made sure his staff was up.

They landed hard on street again and rolled, finally coming to rest some distance from one another. Stunned, Kesler stared up at the sky, breath wheezing and head pounding. He groaned and pushed himself up to see where the hero was.

Torey hit the ground and instantly moaned in agony. Even though he was part god and like Thor, he still didn’t have the ability to be impenetrable…or to escape a peril unscathed. He was still somewhat human. But…he had a mission. Kesler…where was-? He rolled over, lifting himself on his hands and looking around groggily.

At first he only noticed that his hands were warm in a distant, unimportant way. "Kesler," he croaked. Closed his eyes to squeeze out the tears and breathed deep. "Kesler!" he tried again. Maybe now the villain would give in and go home. Warmth was radiating from his hands, up his arms and shoulders.

Rain pelted him, soaking him to the bone and dripping down his face, into his eyes, but he blinked it away. He squinted through the rain again and spotted the villain. Kesler had his staff glowing and the light glowed brighter as he swung it at the hero, who blocked the blow with his hammer.

They locked their weapons together and paused, unable to do anything to knock the other opponent away. They were almost stuck. Kesler gripped Torey’s arm, while Torey held tight to the staff.

“Kesler, is doesn’t have to be like this!” Torey hissed.

“Shut up!”

“Fine, suit yourself…but you are making a huge mistake.”

“Really? Prove it!” Kesler snapped, as they finally unhooked from one another and stepped back, staring at each other.

Torey’s heart beat rapidly in his chest. He might or might not die…but, as he realized this, alarm burning through him, he’d rather go down fighting for good than not. And Kesler was his villain match, he’d give him everything he had and then some, and if he didn’t win…at least he tried his best. His stomach tightened into knots.

Red eyes. That was never a good thing. Then again, when was Kesler ever a good thing?

The villain seemed focused on him. Torey made the first move, throwing himself onto Kesler. Letting go, Torey dropped down, scrambling out of the way of a screaming, descending maw. Kesler laughed as he swung around and knocked Torey off of him.

Kesler looked at him blankly for a second, then his face scrunched up around a welter of emotions. "Puny, pathetic, worthless defenseman!" he yelled, bursting out of his weird moment to flail at Torey with balled fists. Torey countered, blocking as many blows as he could, before he stumbled backward.

“Kesler, you can’t win this!” Torey bravely retorted, swinging his hammer up and clobbering Kesler in the head. Up until now, he’d actually been going easy on the villain. He was giving him every last chance to back down, because honestly, he could really, really make him hurt.

"Raaaaaarrrgh!" Kesler replied, flailing wildly.

They rolled around on the ground, caught close to each other as Kesler tried to punch Torey's nose in and Torey tried to hold Kesler down. They’d forgotten their weapons for a little bit, just using their fists and feet to kick and punch at one another. Eventually they both got to their feet, gripping their weapons tightly.

“One last chance, Kesler, stand down.”

“NEVER!!” Kesler roared and leapt at Torey, bringing his staff down at him.

Torey deflected it with his hammer, sending a bout of sparks into the rainy air. Lightning flashed around them, but made sure to avoid them. Kesler instantly swung the staff at Torey again. The hero dodged it, slamming his hammer down on it. He spun around and dodged another jab. Kesler took aim and let fly a blast of electricity at the hero, who again deflected it with his hammer.

Torey and Kesler continued at this back and forth fighting, with neither tiring or showing any signs of weakness. Then the Bruin defenseman swung his weapon at the villain and missed over his head as Kesler ducked the shot. Kesler instead grabbed a stumbling, slightly off-balanced Torey Krug by the collar of his outfit. He took his other hand and brought the staff over his head and sent the hero to the ground. Then he flicked the glowing staff in his hand and prepared to blast Torey into the middle of next week.

But…

Torey screamed with anger and kicked, taking the legs out from under the villain. Now Kesler stumbled and Torey grabbed his hammer and brought it right into Kesler face, sending him flying backward.

The staff clattered on the torn up street, while Kesler crashed to the ground. But he instantly got back to his feet and wiped a small trace of blood from his mouth, grinning. “Alright, now we’re having some fun!”

Kesler darted forward but Torey, still pissed off flung his hammer forward and knocked him back to the ground. The hero raised his hand up and caught the mighty weapon once more. He padded forward on the torn up road.

Kesler sprang to his feet once more, bleeding more. Torey hit him again with the hammer. But the villain laughed, continuing to pop back up. Torey got annoyed and forgot the hammer, just beating the villain up with his fists and bloodying his nose, like he were fighting someone on the ice.

Then he picked Kesler up and flung him onto the road, denting it underneath of him. Kesler moaned but still managed to snicker. It was sort of freaky sounding. Torey ignored it though and began to knee Kesler in the stomach.

Then the villain finally dove to the side, making a sudden, unexpected move and snatched up his staff, before Torey could get him again. He took aim at the hero and fired. Torey dove to the side, rolled over and got to his feet.

Kesler shot more energy at him but Torey easily dodged it all. The hero leapt into the air and raised up the hammer. He could feel the frustration and fury running through him. He brought the hammer down, just as Kesler raised up his staff to block the shot.

Millions of sparks.

A snapping noise.

And two thunderous thuds.

Torey was thrown backward from the powerful explosion and he skittered on the ground, narrowly missing hitting a tree. There was a thick cloud of dust. It slowly cleared away and Torey saw the shattered staff in Kesler’s hands.

Kesler looked up at him with shock.

Torey smirked. He raised up his hammer and channeled the lightning and then gradually pointed it at the stunned, defenseless villain. The electricity shot out at him and zapped the man, sending him crumbling to the ground, convulsing from the surge. Then he fell limp and unconscious.

Torey got to his feet and walked over, still tense and ready in case the villain wasn’t dead yet. And he shouldn’t be, Torey’s aim was to just knock him out and teach him a lesson. Maybe he’d leave him alone after that.

Sure enough, Kesler remained out cold and unmoving. “Typical dirty hockey player, stubborn and blind.” Torey nodded with a snort and stormed off, heading East on Madison, back toward the United Center. Overhead, the storm broke apart and diminished to a light drizzle and then a misty rain and finally to nothing.

Notes

A quick battle, because Thor often kicked Loki's ass. I used their fight during the Avengers as a guide. :P Also, screw you Loki, you shot at Hawkeye!! :(
No.
Loki has issues man, but I like his character, it makes him really deep and cool. But I don't like his fighting style, he seems more like an evil warlord who would send someone else out to do his dirty work. Sorry Loki, you can't fight buddy.
Yeah...Thor vs Loki!! Haha Kostka's a better Thor, but Kostka's a Ranger, so...
And...who should fight next???? Landy?? Kinny?? Nesty??
